I cannot put into words how much I am against this. I get the idea, dont get me wrong but I find it really unfair and crap. We should not be able to mandate medical treatment. And yes, it is mandating for people who work in that field in reality isn't it, before the 'you dont have to get it, you could quit!' crap starts.

Hopefully the covid nonsense has died down by then. Its going to be here forever. And yes people should have the option of being as safe as possible. But there should always be a choice.

I dont understand how this is possible for all roles in healthcare?

My mother was going to go back to work next year, just picking up 'bank' (?) shifts whenever she fancied it as shes retired but bored. Shes now waiting to see what happens with this mandatory medical treatment **** before doing it. As shes very against it. Not necessarily getting vaccinated, but being pressured into it. I cannot see how they can claim consent was given when they put people in that situation.

Mind shes been saying this for a few months now, since she first heard of carehome staff being pressured into it.

If all net profit goes back into research and development (facilities, equipment, staff, manufacturing centres) etc. then it does not become gross profit. When people talk about “non profit” they mean that individuals/owners/shareholders are not making a private profit from that company (beyond their salary). For example I work for a very small non-profit independent organisation, it’s obviously not that there’s “no money involved”, but all income goes into salaries, pensions, office space and equipment etc. and then any surplus is used to either host events (pre-covid that is, we haven’t gone back to doing any physical events yet) and growing the company. So basically it means that bigger profits one year doesn’t mean that any individual ends up with more money in their bank account.

AZ isn't a not-for-profit company but they are providing the AZ vaccine doses on a not-for-profit basis (i.e. only charging the cost of development and manufacturing) - that's why doses are something like Ł2 compared to Pfizer's $30. They're not doing it out of the goodness of their heart though - the idea was that it would be sold at cost "during the pandemic" and then at full price at some point (assuming Covid vaccines become seasonal like Flu vaccine) and they did it for general "PR reasons" as well ... which have basically completely backfired (because of the blood clot drama). I think they've actually made a net loss because of that.

So it's a bit more complicated with AZ. It's not a non-profit, it's a publicly traded company (AZN) so they were essentially gambling on making profits via increasing their share value with their "good deeds" (it hasn't gone well). The vaccine itself however was produced on a non-profit basis and they haven't directly made money from it.

the idea simply was that by charging it at cost, it makes it affordable as it can be across the world which is an admirable sentiment. Pfizer and Moderna went for the bucks from the start.

The other aspect about AZ is that it doesnt need specialist freezers to keep it viable. Remote locations around the world just dont have the correct equipment

In fairness the russian vaccine can be shipped in solid format and is also cheap and equally effective so they have actually done the world a favour too although not much is heard about that

To be honest I think it would be a bit naive to think that AZ (as a company) were acting purely out of altruism... they were banking on their stock prices surging. the AZ vaccine is branded differently in india, but it's still the identical vaccine and it has been given in the majority in india, so given that Pfizer and Moderna are not given in China, India or Russia ... they are not in the same league population wise as the big 3. I think the russian or chinese vaccine is given in brazil too ... none of the western stuff there
