Aren't the Whatsit Brothers notorious for having Matrix as their only good film? Though I'd include V for Vendetta in that.

I actually don't think the 2nd and 3rd Matrix films are bad films... they just could have been far better films, because the first is honestly a true piece of cinematic history. They're perfectly watchable but they're only OK. There are some great scenes really... Neo vs "Infinite Smiths" in Matrix 2 would be a great scene but it's brought down by some slightly dodgy CGI. The mountain mansion/freeway chase/Neo rescue is also great.

I imagine it will be because the Wachowski Bothers are now the Wachowski Sisters however it gets a little confusing no matter how you look at it, as in their earlier work (including all three Matrix films) they're still credited as The Wachowski Brothers (collectively) and as their male names (individually).

I honestly have no idea if it's incorrect to refer to The Matrix (original trilogy) as a Wachowski Brothers movie. I suppose ultimately it would be their own decision and as far as I know they haven't stated a preference. It's still credited as Brothers on streaming platforms and I believe that could actually be altered if they requested it to be.

Oh I never knew that TS. I don't think I've heard anything at all about them since The Matrix films ended

Oh okay, I didn't know they were trans-identified now. They're not filmmakers I'm particularly interested in so I never bothered to see what they were up to since Matrix.

I thought the story actually got quite good in the sequels. Some great ideas. It was the execution that let them down with some quite tedious sequences.

I certainly don't think they're bad, and unlike a lot of sequels they do push the overall story forward. But as you say, it's in the execution. As a standalone I think Matrix is next to perfect, and the others aren't anywhere near.

They spent a bit too much time on Zion and most of it wasn't that interesting. The actual battle for Zion was good and again quite groundbreaking for 2003 (like the "bullet time effects" in 1999). The third film in general IMO spend too much time outside of The Matrix ... which is really the interesting part of the story.

The second film I think is in general a solid film, but it suffers from the problem of Neo being massively over-powered at that point. He's basically untouchable so for "peril" they rely on putting other characters at risk and having Neo "busy elsewhere and unable to help" (only to swoop in at the last second). Like I said above I actually really like the "Freeway" sequence but other than that, it gets a bit ... convenient ... that Neo is always busy when someone needs help .

I agree with the above that the main issue is that they're just what they are, whereas The Matrix (original) was a cultural phenomenon. Difficult to measure up to that.

Yeah the first one was amazing, such a brilliant idea. I really hope this one is good. Also, agree that Neo Vs all the Mr Smiths was ridiculously CGI'd

There’s also the fact that the metal signpost Neo ends up using as a weapon is obviously meant to be metal, but they used some lighter/more flexible material for the stunts (for obvious reasons I suppose) but there’s a number of places where you can see it bend/flex and just be… well… clearly not a metal sign post.

Default The Matrix 4 confirmed - Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss to return!

The second trailer definitely makes this look like a much more interesting movie than the first one did, I have to say.
