yes, they have been issued with a license that allows them to pay staff, the biggest restriction is that from today they cant sell any merchandise or match day tickets. Season ticket holders can still attend matches

They don't have the money to be able too do so, they have about £16m in the bank according to their last financial year but wages are around £28m a year.

They heavily rely on his money to stay afloat

'There is no template for dealing with this type of situation'

Simon Stone

BBC Sport

There is no template for dealing with this type of situation and football's authorities are scrambling to work out the finer points.

For Chelsea, some elements are straightforward - and tricky.

They cannot offer new contracts - so the futures of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and skipper Cesar Azpilicueta are uncertain. The loan of Saul Niguez will not be turned into a permanent deal. Chelsea cannot sell the numerous players they have on loan, including Armando Broja, who has impressed so much at Southampton. Presumably numerous younger players they would have given contracts to now will not get them.

But what about the detail? Can Chelsea sell tickets to their own fans for away games given they as a club do not benefit?

What will happen to the FA Cup semi-final - if they get there - when receipts are split between clubs?

Can Premier League clubs like Brentford - who were part-way through selling their away allocation for their trip to Stamford Bridge on 2 April - still do so, or do they have to stop?

And as for the £20,000 limit on expenses for away games, Chelsea have matches next week at Lille and Middlesbrough. Both would cost substantially more than £20,000. Can individuals make contributions or will Chelsea have to reduce the cost with a less expensive form of accommodation for Thomas Tuchel's side?

Clearly, the sale of the club needs to happen quickly if there is not to be a major impact. But that is in the hands of the government.

Roman Abramovich's funding meant Chelsea emerged from the financial impact of Covid-19 relatively unscathed. They will not escape from this.

I think its a very tricky one. The government have frozen the assets, so nothing can be done with resolving its ownership. I have no idea what the clubs liquidity is like, but with no money coming in, there is a finite window while the club can pay wages. Sanctions could last for years

According to The Times (sorry no link, just quoting a tweet)

Quote:
"The Government would need to give special dispensation to allow the sale to go ahead and Abramovich would be barred from receiving any funds"

"He will not a penny from the sale of the club" According to a Government source.
I'm not against this happening to Roman, but many jobs would be at risk (and im not talking about the footballers, higher paid staff etc), ground staff, shop staff, stewards and so on. Also a club like Chelsea does contribute well to the economy. Of course being a Chelsea fan I'm probably coming across bias, but the fact of the matter is there is a knock on affect here. The Government need to take all this into consideration.

I feel it will be taken over by one of those interested parties, but for a nominal sum, wont be the first time a football club changed hands for £1.00

that won't fly. If it's considered ill gotten gains, there is nothing to stop a pal of his picking the club up for a song. I think it will eventually be run by some sort of trust

Chelsea are trying to get it overturned

-----------------

By virtue of his 100 per cent ownership of Chelsea FC plc and affiliated entities, Chelsea FC would normally be subject to the same sanctions regime as Mr Abramovich. However, the UK Government has issued a general licence that permits Chelsea FC to continue certain activities.

We will fulfil our men’s and women’s team fixtures today against Norwich and West Ham, respectively, and intend to engage in discussions with the UK Government regarding the scope of the licence. This will include seeking permission for the licence to be amended in order to allow the Club to operate as normal as possible. We will also be seeking guidance from the UK Government on the impact of these measures on the Chelsea Foundation and its important work in our communities.

The Club will update further when it is appropriate to do so.
