I had posted this on Happy MTVN's Scotter thread general chat
but I feel it needs a Full debate, now. This is terrible. [A pensioner has died in hospital six days after she was hit by an e-scooter being ridden by a 14-year-old boy. Nottinghamshire Police said 71-year-old Linda Davis, known to her family and friends as Lou, was in Southwell Road East, Rainworth, when the collision involving a privately-owned electric scooter happened on the pavement at around 3.50pm on Thursday June 2. She was taken to hospital but died last Wednesday. Nottinghamshire Police said in a statement: "The rider, a 14-year boy, remained at the scene and contacted emergency services." "He has since been interviewed under caution and remains under investigation while enquiries continue."] The one good thing is the kid stayed with the Granny he knocked to the ground. Sadly, she then died from his actions. https://www.itv.com/news/central/202...oned-by-police ![]() [Linda Davis (above), 71, known to her family and friends as Lou, was struck on the pavement on Southwell Road East, in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire, at around 3.50pm on June 2] [Grandmother, 71, who became first pedestrian in UK to be killed by an e-scooter was standing on pavement browsing in charity shop window when she was mowed down, friends say Linda Davis was knocked down by an e-scooter in Rainworth, Nottinghamshire She was allegedly browsing outside charity shop 'Around Again' before the hit The grandmother, 71, sadly died last Wednesday following the ordeal A boy, 14, has been quizzed by police as the investigation continues] https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-pals-say.html Last edited by arista; 15-06-2022 at 03:10 PM. |

it's pretty simple. its against the law to ride them on the pavement and the kid shouldn't have been riding it on the pavement

I don't say that lightly either; my own grandmother was killed by a teenage driver who came into town over the speed limit, over a blind hill and knocked her down (she died of complications from a head injury a few months later). He was fully to blame for the accident and I'd say behaving in a significantly more reckless manner than the kid in this story, and a few years older, AND having passed a driver's test so far fewer excuses. And it triggered a knock-on effect that saw my mum descend into poor mental health/alcoholism that ultimately killed her, too. But I nonetheless have sympathy for even him. When there's no malice involved and it's someone so young, it's just an all-round ****ed up situation. |

As for this young boy, yes I feel sympathy, it's a sad situation all around. Immature and niave.... The fact he rang for an ambulance says a lot. I am guessing that he could face a MUDA manslaughter charge with detention in a YOI until 18 then continue the sentence in a prison depending on how long the sentence is... That's if he does get one and whether it be ruled manslaughter or not. He'll have to live with the guilt for the rest of his life though and the family will have to deal with the grief. Sad all around Last edited by ThomasC; 15-06-2022 at 05:30 PM. |

The scooters are very dangerous. So many times I've nearly been run over by them on the pavement

On average, a commuter e-scooter weighs 24 lbs, and it can range from 11 lbs to over 300 lbs, depending on the type of electric scooter.
