The fact that a UK entry from Eurovision was a hit with anyone below the age of 95 is a legend imo.

The only negative I had with the race is a rule that the Sport has, and that's why did Verstappen & Hamilton have to give up their spots that they'd earned at the beginning just because incidents happened that had nothing to do with them? I perfectly understand why there had to be a red flag, I just don't get why when the race restarted why Verstappen & Hamilton didn't keep their places that they'd earned?

But besides that I really enjoyed it, it was probably my favourite race of the season.

Yeah !!

I’m a MadMax fan so given they continued with the race after the accident and didn’t have a completely fresh start .. why on earth didn’t he restart in the first position that he’d earned

So I'm not the only one confused by this then.

Maybe Nicky or Niamh might have the answer for us.

because it was a standing start, and the FIA had decided they had to return to original positions apart from those who were behind those unable to continue because of the crashes, they were allowed to go one place upwards

That seems grossly unfair to those at the front who had good starts and gained positions though .

Nobody could have complained if they had started in the new order..

Formula One driver Zhou Guanyu has credited his car's halo protection device for saving his life after he was involved in a horrific high-speed crash during the first lap of Sunday's British Grand Prix.

Zhou was one of several drivers involved in the turn one crash, which resulted in his Alfa Romeo flipping over and skidding across the track and onto the gravel, before smashing into the fencing.

The halo, which is made from titanium, forms protection around the cockpit and was introduced in 2018. Although it was initially met with some criticism from drivers, several drivers have since credited the halo for preventing serious injuries.

"I'm ok, all clear," Zhou tweeted later on Sunday, along with a selfie. "Halo saved me today. Thanks everyone for your kind messages!"

Zhou's car ended up wedged between the tire barrier and catch fencing, which is there to protect fans. The awkward nature of the car's placement meant it took some time to extract him.
Mercedes' George Russell, who made contact with Zhou during the collision, immediately got out of his car once it had come to a stop and ran over to check on Zhou.
The rookie, who is the first Chinese driver in F1, was eventually pictured being stretchered away by emergency medical personnel and was later given the all clear after being assessed at the medical center.
Williams driver Alex Albon was also involved in the crash and was flown to a local hospital for checks. He was later given the all clear, his team confirmed on Twitter.
The race was red flagged and suspended until Zhou's car had been removed. As the cars were returning to the pits, members of an environmental group made their way onto the track and sat down in protest, though fortunately the racing had stopped.

Okay, thanks for the explanation Nicky.

I do think it's a harsh rule personally, but I have that a lot in Football tbf so it's not that bigger deal to me.

I guess I'll have to agree to disagree with the FIA on that particular rule.

my prediction for austrian gp

1. Verstappen (i mean he has won here last few years now, although curious how he'll perform with a completely different car now)
2. Sainz Jr (can see him doing again well now he's bit in the winning mood)
3. Alonso (can see him booking another surprise strong result yup)
driver of the day: can see Magnussen getting this one, if he has another strong race or anyone from bottom of the grid at qualifyings to getting in the points

I'll guess.

Verstappen wins.

Hamilton finishes 2nd.

Perez bags 3rd place.

qualifyings for sprint race today, of austrian gp

the finishing order of tomorrows sprint race will be the starting grid for sundays main race (doesn't matter if you DNF in sprint race, as then you are just starting on sunday from bottom half of the grid)

think Hamilton has to start from behind or from pit lane today, with new car

curious what he can come up with, what position he can get to for tomorrows starting grid, within 24 laps, since that isn't much time to move upwards

Quote:
Multiple women who attended the Formula 1 race in Austria have accused mainly Dutch fans at the race of reprehensible behavior, including sexual harassment, racism, and homophobia. The Formula 1 organization confirmed receiving complaints.

Women shared their experiences on social media after a female fan invited to the Mercedes garage space experienced severe harassment. Drunk onlookers pulled up her dress, told her she deserved no respect because she was a Hamilton fan, and catcalled her the entire way, according to Parool.

“We found out that this happened, and that’s just not okay,’ Mercedes team principal Toto Wolf said. “This has to stop. If you are a Formula 1 fan, for any team or driver, you cannot be racist, sexist, or homophobic. Then you don’t fit in Formula 1, and we don’t want you.”

His statement sparked a floodgate of women sharing their experiences on Twitter. “The behavior has been… disappointing,” one said. “My expectations were low, but holy cow. Racist, homophobic slurs, cat calling, inappropriate talking, and touching. The list goes on.”

“Genuinely had to fight off a panic attack and not cry the whole walk back to the exit because I was scared,” another woman wrote. “We’re coming back for the race, but we are never coming back to this Grand Prix ever again, and that’s a promise.”

“I’m at the circuit too, and I’ve seen horrible things. The girl that sells ice cream (that is WORKING) gets harassed by older drunk men without pause. It’s horrendous.”

“I heard all kinds of swearing but also the n-word, which triggered me extremely. I think this is unacceptable, and I”m full of shame for the Austrian GP and their so-called fans.”

A Max Verstappen fan who attended the Austrian Grand Prix last year pointed out that this is not isolated to only this year’s race. “Every time a woman or girl walked by in front of the grandstand, there would be catcalls, whistling, etc.” She even saw fathers with their children chanting “there should be a dick in that” at women walking by. “And I’m sure most meant it as a joke, but when you’re chanting this at young girls, it’s likely not a joke to them. And it’s not like it were just a few people. No, it was like 50% of the grandstand.”

According to Parool, the race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg has become known as a Grand Prix overrun by Dutch Max Verstappen fans, primarily men. They sleep at one of the large campsites near the circuit and party in the days leading up to the GP.

In a response on Twitter, the Formula 1 organization confirmed receiving complaints. “We have been made aware of reports that some fans have been subject to completely unacceptable comments by others at the Austrian Grand Prix. We take these matters very seriously,” the organization said. “This kind of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Verstappen’s team, Red Bull, also responded. “We are shocked to hear that there have been incidents of completely unacceptable behavior in the grandstands and the fan parks,” the team said on Twitter. “There is no place for it in racing or society as a whole. We value inclusion and want a safe space for fans to enjoy our sport.
