Default New Highway Code rules start today : Cyclists pissing off, drivers

Mind how you go, lady.......

[Cyclists take to the middle of the road
and ride two-abreast in the street as they
take advantage of new Highway Code rules
which kick in today and also give
pedestrians priority at junction
The Highway Code has been updated
today with 50 new rules aimed at
protecting cyclists and pedestrians
Cyclists are now advised to ride
in the centre of lanes on quieter roads,
in slower-moving traffic
But there are concerns that millions
of drivers are unaware of the
major revamp of road safety rules.]

Ffs is that what was going on today? We were on a country road in the middle of nowhere and someone was doing this - I can now see doing it pointedly (we had no idea there was a change) - and the result was that he was riding right next to the centre line and not leaving enough space to pass with a safe distance. ****ing idiot.

This basically makes every junction a zebra crossing as well then, no chance all drivers are going to be looking out for people waiting to cross and always stop for them

instead of mandating fluorescent wear for cyclists

which would save so many lives

"when a vehicle is approaching from behind, groups of cyclists are told they have a duty to allow a driver to overtake, for example by reverting to single file or stopping"

So Mr lycra prick yesterday in pompously trying to "show off" the new rules for cyclists was actually breaking the new rules himself and causing a hazard. Good job everyone.

[Killer cyclists facing tougher jail sentences under
a crackdown proposed by the transport secretary.
It says Grant Shapps wants to close an "archaic"
legal hole which means riders who
kill pedestrians can be jailed for
a maximum of only two years.]
