Yes, and he wants to abolish second jobs for MPs. Something I think is well overdue. There are many MPs like that horrendous David Lammy and Esther McVey who behave as if they're NOT MPs. Both spend more time writing in the newspapers and being on TV and radio. It makes me furious when I see Esther McVey presenting TV shows on GB News as if she is a free agent. ![]() ![]() ![]() I do hope Starmer puts this policy into action. It's well overdue. Thanks. ![]() ![]() |

I applaud this idea.
Although I'd like to hear a lot of the detail too. An elected chamber instead of the Lords. Great. HOW would he want it elected, by first past the post or a PR system. If not PR what's the point of again having under half the votes cast dictating with an overall status in the new chamber. That is a concern. If he would like PR for the second chamber then why not go all the way and adopt the policy of PR overwhelmingly supported at Conference this year for general elections too. He does really NEED to spell out at least a bit of the finer detail of things he proposes. I applaud most of what he is proposing but I wish he'd get over the fear of going much further on other issues which could turn off some voters. Which I doubt really would turn them off IF he showed the conviction and passion for them. Such as taking energy at least into public ownership. He does I'm sure believe that right to look at and do and I still believe most of the Country would applaud that policy too. I'd like him to and hope he will, as the election approaches really go for massively changing policies on a good number of issues. The chance is there but he doesn't need to risk that chance disappearing by a lack of boldness on his part. This House of Lords idea though and more powers to the rest of the UK. Certainly that should prove a vote winner no doubt. I just want him to return to the things he still claims he's open on. Because if he was to present the things he really still knows he could support then he'd come across better presenting such policies. Last edited by joeysteele; 05-12-2022 at 08:47 AM. |

Yes Elected Lords
Starmer hopes to bring it in on his first term. We need to hear what the Old Gits in the House of Lords have to say on this. |

Outflanking the tories from the right definitely doesn't make him right wing. No no no.
Won't support workers though.

offering voters that are fed up with tories, tories but a bit crueler isn't a surefire way to win elections. Polls are already back to a hung parliament, so maybe he needs to offer a different choice for once.
He's doing this at the same time as refusing to back nurses and other workers.

Every other Party bar the DUP would never support the Cons back in governnent anyhow. However as much as polling can be believed there's NOT a single poll out to now that indicates a hung parliament currently The lowest lead for Labour presently in any is 14% then up to other leads of from 20% to 23% Even the lowest one indicates, if right, an overall majority of anything from 50, the other larger poll leads indicate up to well over 100+ I'd like to see any current poll that disputes that. However as I'm not in favour of massive overall majorities for any Party with under 50% of the votes cast. I'd prefer more accountable government that can be held more to account too with only a small or even NO overall majority in place. Tony Blair had around 44% of votes in 1997 and got a 170+ overall majority That is an obscenity to democracy. As to the Nurses strike. Starmer better back the Nurses. It will be shameful if he doesn't I back them all the way and think it a disgrace this government has brought the nurses to the point they are today. Undervalued and treated like they're mess on the Con Party's shoes. Absolutely shocking. Last edited by joeysteele; 06-12-2022 at 03:28 PM. |

14 pts leads to a hung parliament, leaving labour 3 seats short of an ovr majority, according to polls which don't exist apparently.
Changes in boundaries since Blairs time are having an effect.
