It is against their Church Laws.
Not in their Bible etc. [The current position of the Church of England is that marriage is between a man and a woman.] Scotland allows it. Was on Debates today Last edited by arista; 19-01-2023 at 11:57 AM. |

Where do they stand on Bingo Alison then "the first non-binary Priest to be ordained in the COE" who is no longer a man but married to a woman? Would that not be classed as "gay marriage" now considering he's not a man anymore?

Most likely but isn't he making them look a bit stupid though by claiming he's not a man but he's married to a woman when he's one of their representatives and they've just made a statement like they have?

To be fair, claiming to be "gender queer" only makes him look stupid. It's the kind of thing most people just say "lol kay" to and ignore. No-one takes it seriously enough to think it reflects on the Church's views toward gay marriage.

Still a contradiction
.... COE have got themselves in a mess. So that's probably another reason why some people want to push this to be accepted, because it doesn't make sense to people to have gay & trans priests & vicars ..but then be against gay marriage itself. COE tries to be liberal whilst pushing back. They don't know what balance to have anymore. In Mosques & synagogues , I very much doubt we'd be hearing about many gay or trans imam's & rabbi's. People know where they stand and know it's practically unheard of with Judaism & Islam , not much confusion there ... whether people agree with it or not . These places are very strict overall especially re: same sex marriage . And I don't think they'll be changing their minds any time soon ,or forced to either . Like I said people know where they stand. Many will go to a registry office to get married etc ,you can virtually get married anywhere these days .

Like I said atleast people know where they stand with mosque's & Synagogues , they don't go back & forth on same sex marriage .And I have never seen a gay or trans imam, or a gay or trans rabbi . Not much contradiction or confusion with these strict religious establishments .

A religious body using their beliefs as a way to justify their bigotry? I am shocked, almost as shocked as it taking less than a page for this thread to turn into yet another non-binary/trans debate/trashing session, almost like this isn’t actually cared about at all

They don't even allow women to be Priests in the Catholic religion or Priests to marry at all. Catholicism is the biggest religion in Ireland, am I bothered by that? No, I think they're an out dated bunch of hypocrites that will die off in time (the religions and higher ups within the religion I mean not the followers)

I am very confused I thought they conducted gay marriage, and if they have have accepted gay clergymen and women into the flock this is a very strange decision

isn't the rule something like they can bless a gay marriage, but not actually do a marriage. They have tied themselves in knots though, it's obvious they don't know what to do without breaking up the church

Gay men are losing the allyship of women (which they've mostly had since the dawn of civil rights), because when it came to the crunch they showed absolutely no indication of being willing to return the favour or even to listen uncritically with compassion. Lots of generalisation there but it is what it is. Gay men currently asking "why aren't cis women standing up for us" is an absolutely ludicrous question to ask. |
