there arent any NHS dentists in my area, so any dental treatment costs an arm and a leg. The price starts from £120 per filling.

Getting a non-emergency appointment at all even at our local private dentist was a nightmare for ages post-covid. They were taking none at all obviously taking no appointments during the lockdown-era, but then they had a massive backlog of people wanting appointments so if you tried to make one it was like "Uhhh how about half 2 on Wednesday... in June next year?"
This thread has just reminded me I need to book with the optician though . Takes ages to get an appointment there too. |

DIY Dentistry sounds like one of the most terrifying things.

We did that in the sixties Tied a piece of string around the offending tooth and the other end of the string around a door knob - get someone rise to slam the door shut if you’re squeamish . A loose tooth .. grab it with a cotton hanky and pull it out yourself.. Swill the blood away with a glass of saltwater Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Last edited by Zizu; 06-03-2023 at 03:39 PM. |

The "slam a door" thing is a terrible idea - pulls the tooth at completely the wrong angle and if it's still well stuck you'll end up breaking the tooth which is the last thing you want.

I haven't had a dentist appointment since pre-covid. First I moved and no local dentists were accepting new patients so I eventually decided just to book one at my old practice and make the journey there. Booked it in October 2021 I think and the earliest they offered me was January 2022. The dentists then cancelled a couple of days before the appointment after I'd waited three months for it.
I finally got round to booking another one a couple of weeks ago and they offered me an appointment in mid April two months away. I did take it so they'd better not cancel on me again |

I had a molar removde by my dentist and he literally did it with a hammer and a screwdriver type object. I kid you not, that is the type of force needed to remove those bad boys at the back

Toothache is a terrible pain to have. I've not been to the dentist for about 4 years.
I simply cannot afford it. So when one of my fillings came out last year, I bought one of those DIY refilling kits. It's supposed to last a few days while you go to see a proper dentist. But 10 months on, the filling is still in. My fear is I'd swallow it. |
