it's a double edge sword, because it may have that effect but it doesn't say a lot for the russian forces ability to protect its people if they can let a drone through that is targeting putin

I don't think it'd make much sense. If Putin was assassinated by Ukraine it would probably mobilise popular support for the war and he'd be replaced by someone even worse. Unless of course the US already had someone waiting in the wings to assume power who they think they could work with

For all we know, putin could be on his death bed and they are preparing the people to blame outside forces for his death. It also wouldn't surprise me if there was a major power struggle going on between the russian elites as we speak
