That cartoon picture at the end is from an Oxfam pride ad campaign though which they removed and apologised for not long after they put it up, for using that misogynistic slur and for the likeness people where pointing out to JK Rowling.

The thing is, "TERF" is quite descriptive and not necessarily offensive . It's being adopted by some as a sort of "Well... yes this is accurate".

Oliver is correct though in some cases it's just not accurate as there are plenty of TELFs these days as well (Trans Exclusionary Liberal Feminists). I imagine trans rights activists would like to believe that's not the case, though.

But all "radical" actually means is acknowledging the existence of patriarchal values in society and through history.

It seems to have just morphed into a "catch all" insult to hurl at anyone who doesn't follow the trans agenda to the letter these days, it's pretty inter changeable with "transphobe"

True, and I doubt half the people using it even know what the acronym stands for. Interchangeable in a way but of course, you'd rarely hear men referred to as "TERF", though often as "transphobic" so I think there's some inherent misogyny in it as well as a descriptor.

Its a bit of a moot term in the first place I find - it's not really feasible to be an "RF" without being "TE" . Part of radical feminism would involve a focus on the effects of male socialisation, and thus an acceptance that transwomen can never actually have the same experience in any meaningful way.

That of course doesn't have to mean "wanting to eradicate trans people" - just accepting that being trans (a person of one gender choosing to present aesthetically and socially as the other gender) is not the same as actually being that gender, and is a separate category in itself. Or in short... that transwomen are transwomen (and that's entirely their choice and business), but not women... ...

Well, the term is "Trans Exclusionary" not "transwomen exclusionary" so it's not even accurate as transmen would be seen as female still in a radical feminist viewpoint one would assume

Oxfam International apologised and re-edited cartoon alleged to include racial stereotyping and JK Rowling attack

The UK charities watchdog is assessing whether it will take action against Oxfam after receiving complaints about a cartoon published by the charity that ignited a row about transgender issues.

Oxfam International put the cartoon out on Twitter last week to mark pride month, but took it down on Tuesday after a backlash against its use of the term Terf (trans-exclusionary radical feminist) in an image depicting anti-trans “hate groups”.

Oxfam International, which commissioned the cartoon as part of its gender justice campaign strand, subsequently published a re-edited version. It apologised for the “offence it caused” and said it had “made a mistake”.

The cartoon had sparked a furore, with critics saying it was misogynist and used racial stereotyping. Some accused it of using an image resembling the bestselling author JK Rowling, a high-profile participant in the volatile and polarised debate around transgender issues.

Writing in the Daily Mail, the journalist and feminist Julie Bindel called the cartoon a “vile and misogynist” attack on Rowling, adding that she believed Oxfam had become “captured to such an extent by extreme political ideology and trans-lunacy that it is no longer fit for purpose”.

The Charity Commission said it was assessing the complaints in the context of its regulatory and risk framework, which requires it to take action if it considers a charity has undermined public trust and confidence in the charity sector.
