The editing and manipulating has been really obvious this year more so than others.
The shortening of the time doesn't help if it gives production more incentive to overreact. If it is longer then they don't have to manipulate as much because there is more time for personalities to come forward and drama to develop.

Imo, the manipulation is closer to CBB and in that way very familiar. CBB was always heavyhanded (also short on time) with both the editing and meddling. That's just my memory of it and what I remember feeling at the time.

It sounds like you are saying more they have been typecast. I agree with that. It's almost like they prewrote the roles they wanted to fill and chose people who would be the most stable fit for that role and will hold their own.

There has to always be diversity in casting or else it is too of a boring show. But I agree here they crafted such obvious roles for each HM they knew what exactly was expected of them upon entering the house. Whereas before it took longer to get to know an HM in the past. They had to find their niche.

Edit/An aside: On introspection I think part of the reason Jenkin may have struggled is because he saw through this. Maybe subconsciously he saw he was being typecast as the group fatty as people started arriving. Then to have Olivia reject him so publicly in front of millioms on the first night. I don't know how much encouragement or meddling they are giving towards fitting their certain character, but that could have been the tough pill. I really felt there was something more to that than Jenkin being nominated for the punishment for him to have gone in his crabshell like that. (I really felt for him in that moment.)

I think because each person fit their niche so well, not only was there as much conflict (not necessarily bad?) from different communication styles.. but everyone communicated so well based on the filters they were given, it almost made future drama much more predictable. And also reactions.

I had thought they cast really well. Now I wonder if they cast too well. And also they messed up with background screens in a serious way...
