It really is. If you gonna waffle, at least provide the cut-off second-point to where the video actually gets tangible and relevant. At least make it easy for people to skip the unnecessary stuff if they don’t want that. When it’s rubbish or just not that interesting to you it’s just useless white noise that’s long and nothing to do with why you’re trying to watch the video in the first place. By all means beef up your pre-anecdotes and roll them out for a second (not even gonna say a minute, still) but at least get to the point on a tangible schedule. Or at least make it easy for people to know where you have if you not gonna keep the intro short.
It’s like in certain places of work. No-one really likes an unnecessarily long handover that’s just wasting time and trying to force the same level of feeling they have for certain people there onto you. Like you’re supposed to care as much that Mr Donald’s a dick or Karen from the other office ignored them at the water-cooler and was caught shopping at Aldi the other Tuesday despite claiming to be a Waitrose-only snob (maybe she just wanted cash-back so she could eat a Greek restaurant that only takes cash). Unless we know the people or circumstances on a similar level, people don’t care. And they don’t want to listen to someone by the wall standing there talking forever about stuff that’s got nothing to do with them and who the fakest flop-snob of the week is. They just want to know/fill in the deets on what’s been what during those 8/12 hours so they can do their job or get out the door and go home/the pub. The fluff is unnecessary.

I think it's because some YouTubers cover stories that sometimes aren't really that in-depth to run for 8 minutes (which is when they start making a profit I think) so they waffle on so they can get the Ad revenue.

Yup. Sometimes it’s not about revenue extending though. Sometimes it’s just people talking too much and not getting to the point even when there’s no incentive for the video to be any longer than it needs to be. Even if it’s going to be long, at least let it be relevant-long instead of doing a makeup tutorial for half of it or doing a 10-minute introduction.

BBC News. So unrelentingly negative.

The BBC wouldn't know positivity if it slapped them up the face.

Undiagnosed tics and repetitive twitches, seriously. It’s like half the world’s on the covert-Tourette’s spectrum and just can’t keep their hands/noses still. You don’t have to have misophonia to find stuff like that triggering and deeply irritating but if you do, it doesn’t help.

People being overly sensitive to the smell of essential oils.
The concept of forgiveness being touted as a sacred virtue. I’ve written theses on this issue so I’m going to put a cap on it in the meantime but what I will say is that it is not a 2024 resolution for me.

This trend (it’s been increasing over the past 7/8 years) of neurodivergence becoming such a popular thing that every other person says they’re autistic and/or ADHD now. If it was under-diagnosed in the past, it’s over-diagnosed now. Sometimes the diagnosis is self-diagnosis that happens on TikTok and it’s just crazy.

People get spooked when they hear about how unpleasant and uncomfortable OCD can be for the person going through it. People who have sexual, religious and violent obsessions that they know are going to be completely misunderstood by people who don’t fully get OCD and the spectrum of it would feel much more at ease if it was just a case of them being extra-clean and they’d say they had no problem at all if that was their only problem. Seeing OCD as a disorder of excessive cleanliness and constantly framing it as that alone doesn’t help. Yes, that’s some of it for a certain proportion of people with OCD and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder but that’s not even the half of it. Just the most stereotypical, publicly acknowledged type.

The “ever since Covid” brigade. It’s been 4 years and your own life trajectory and most other things are not inherently impacted by a virus. Shut up.
