Nick Griffin posted on X

If you follow me in #Rochdale, get out and vote for George Galloway today. He's not perfect, but it's the best way by far to stick two fingers up to the rotten political elite and their fake news media cronies.

Reaction is a bit ott imo. Galloway has always had a demographic of support hence he's been elected as an MP so many times. He's been consistent his whole career and people might find him objectionable but he never shies away from a debate and is happy to engage with anyone.

Even still though, this never would have happened if Labour had fielded a proper candidate so that's on them.

Actually it's our electoral system here too which is at fault.
I think postal votes go out too early.

However too, the system is if a candidate steps down, or has to, or even dies.
The Party cannot replace that candidate with another once ballot papers are ready with names on.

I think the ballot paper only needs the Party names on it then a change of Candidate could be done.
On polling day have in the booths the names of candidates and Party's displayed.

Plus I think since selection of candidates often comes down to last 2 in the constituencies.
Have the candidate with a second .
Who if a candidate has to drop out, the second becomes the candidate.

Of course for me, change to PR our electoral system.
This one is outdated and becoming not fit for purpose or fully representative government anymore too.

Azhar Ali was respected, by Jewish and Muslim communities alike.
He hadn't seeming put a foot wrong
Even Louise Ellman, a great lady who returned to Labour after Starmer made the changes on anti-Semitism.
She thought Ali the ideal candidate too.

Then he spouted his rubbish
Had to be dropped..
However then Labour nor the Greens who had the same problem with their candidate.
Could not at that time field a new candidate.

Imagine what Con hard-line supporters would be screaming if Labour had continued to leave Ali as the official Labour candidate.
They'd be screaming hysterically from the rooftops as to what a disgrace that was.
They'd be right too.

That may be but still 12,000 people came out and voted for Galloway. There were 11 candidates there and he got nearly 40% of the vote on a fairly standard turnout for a by election. That's for a candidate who makes a big point of sticking two fingers up to the main parties so it's not a result to be ignored.

I for one welcome Mr Galloways return to Westminster. A one off politician and you don't get many like him these days. You look at most politicians today and most of them are almost clones of each other. There'll be numerous other Rishi Sunaks or Keir Starmers in British politics over the next 50 years but there won't be any more George Galloways. Arista appreciates this I feel.

Then there's all the postal votes that came from, for instance, one bedroom flats with 8 people registered to vote there. And the incidents of intimidation to other candidates, their staff and families and at polling stations. And to think we oversee elections in other countries. It's a sad indictment of the Electoral Commission and of the terrible apathy of the electorate in general. The only saving grace for me is that there will be general election this year. Let's hope we wake up before then.

Yes he has been around a long time and held onto his convictions throughout yet he's also friendly with people across the political spectrum. Not to mention he is a unionist who gives the SNP just as hard a time as the Tories and Labour. All things to respect.

Whilst some of that may be true I don't think it can explain the scale of his victory

It terrifies me to think this will be replicated in other places. I don't think it's over-dramatic to say that if this is repeated and more like Galloway are elected this will be just another country where Jews aren't safe.

I have never liked Galloway.
I think elections have fallen to an even greater low now with his election win.

Parliament is now the much worse off with him and his views in it
(I couldn't bring myself to call him a member of it).

I agree with Livia as to him and agree totally with bots that Galloway is an abominable individual.
