This is the EXACT OPPOSITE of true. Ultimately the best treatment for anxiety is managed exposure to the things that cause anxiety to "teach" the subconscious mind that there is no real danger present.

Avoidance of the causes of anxiety is basically confirming to yourself that there was something to be anxious about, and as things like GAD are not about the actual cause of anxiety, your mind will trick itself into finding a new "cause" of the feeling. This is how people become completely socially reclusive/agoraphobic.

You have to manage the symptoms in the short terms and re-train the brain in the long term.

Pregabalin though is a neuro medication that was designed for epilepsy and other neuropathic disorders... it's a very drastic option for anxiety and prescribed far too freely.
