How does it make it worse? He's faced actual violence and reacted in a far more measured way than any of the bleating we see in this thread, which sort of puts a stop to the argument you are pretending to make.

then he should have empathy for others who are attacked - especially one of the very few politicians who is happy to meet members of the public

Having a milkshake thrown is not an attack, it's an inconvenience. I don't support this as a norm, but I remember Jeremy being punched, and a member of the public being arrested for his intention to kill him, just because he wanted to end homelessness and make the rich pay more in tax.
