It's scary when the government is telling the law courts how to respond to the rioters up in court. I'm all for past offenders to be refused bail, but 1st offenders shouldnt be getting remanded for pushing bins or throwing stuff.

the PM cannot change the justice system without passing a law in parliament. His words in a speech mean nothing and carry zero weight

Simple as that really. How is it fair for someone to throw a brick at police or set fire to a hotel and block the exits and not be punished?

Who said they cant be punished? They must be punished, but fairly, and not because of knee jerk reactions from a pm trying to act tough.
