Nobody in their right mind condones rioters from every side, but it doesn't change fundamental facts. A small majority of the UK don't want immigration. They are fed stories about illegal immigration every day of the week. When a new government comes in that got there on the back of a tiny percentage of the popular vote ( much less than voted for brexit) and that new government is seen as sympathetic to immigrants over their own population, it is a recipe for unrest.

I’ve never been abused by a Muslim for my sexuality, plenty of white ‘Christian’ people have been abusive towards me for it though, that shtick really doesn’t work as well as you hope it does

I mean it's fairly evident that a lot of devout Muslims will be against homosexuality but yes the thing people like to ignore is that the fundamentalist Christians have exactly the same attitudes - the issue is hardline religion in general, not any specific religion.

We've just, in most of Europe, gotten used to our Christianity being much more liberal and soft than it once was. For now. Do a bit of digging at any friendly Church Group and you'll find that their opinions remain largely the same as ever, they just don't share them as openly. We're accustomed to fluffy Christianity, and conveniently forget the inquisitions, conquests and crusades.

The only meaningful difference is that Islam is a newer religion than Christianity.

You only need to look at america to see what lies just beneath the surface regarding religion. Those fundamentalist christian groups have been working for decades to create a power base and when Trump came along and said, if you make me president I will do it for you. This is what happens
