It will never change. Like you say, Americans love their guns. I'm married to a Texan, his whole family owns guns and shoot regularly. I don't have a problem with it because they are trained, they're taught gun safety as kids and the adults' guns are under lock and key. The same kind of thing happens here only with knives. Sadly, you can't legislate for the mentally unstable.
