I use thin fleeces on the top and bottom under the sheets and sandwich myself between those. The bodyheat creates the same effect and it's very toasty and cosy. No electric needed and it's an effective way to stay insulated even if the room is frigid. Most of our blankets are Sunbeam brand in the US and they're engineered to fail after the first year or so, so they need replacing constantly. Complete waste of money so I've not bought a blanket since learning the trick with the fleece. We survived the Texas Winter Outage just staying underneath the covers and pups were warm also. Glad I didn't go through that with an infant (that was a year before...)
