you really can't take anything from the final act that saw him perish. It was years of self abuse that brought him to that inevitable point. It's like saying keith moon died in a swimming pool because he couldn't swim

Well if 'we' have seen the same thing happen over and over, then what does that tell you?

Some people can fight it, others can't. People face different battles. Some have more resilience and brain chemistry is different

Your view is over simplistic. It's not the reality.

Yes they do.

I hope you managed to get rid of it.

I have a close friend who has an addiction. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water you can't make it drink. There really is only so much you can do unless that person wants to help themselves and unfortunately some can't.

Oh it's not me. My late brother. He battled years of addiction, but didn't make it.

I battled a bit of mild alcohol addiction from 2018-21 (minus 2020) but I made it.

And some people swear down that cannabis and psilocybin are more problematic drugs than alcohol. Again, the hypocrisy makes me sick.

It is. The drinking was holding me back in lots of ways and I even lost a great job because of it. There were other issues on the job but the drinking was the final straw. At that point I was so unabashed about it that I’d be getting through half a bottle of gin and 3 litres of Strongbow and not even try to cover it up or hide/get rid of the bottles when the morning lot came in. I just didn’t care to hide my drinking. I could’ve been doing bits with ITV had I not been such an alcoholic but 2018 me just didn’t want to help myself, so I got sacked. The drinking problem cost me way more money than that but that’s just one example of how it cost me a really good opportunity and permanently closed a door on me for no reason. I’d give my all to that company if they took me back tomorrow now but they’re not trying to risk taking back an ex-alcoholic so it’s a no-go.

Hmmm…I find that hard to accept. Instant fame and fortune is fine until it starts to dwindle. Although those opportunities were there some find it difficult to deal with..we have seen it happen to so many. Drugs and alcohol are readily available and when your life turns around and that fame disappears it must be easy to turn to them as an escape..and addiction sets in. It’s a vicious circle and unless you have a strength within to stop the self destruction it’s inevitable that things will spiral out of control and a life ends because of it.
I’m sure his family are not relieved it’s over…they probably had hope that he could get through it. It’s just all very tragic for everyone involved.

No one chooses it bots, and this is a very ugly post for anyone who has lost someone to addiction.

The fact that we see so many people who got rich & famous young lose themselves to drugs, alcohol and depression should indicate strongly that it isn't, in fact, "every opportunity" at all and seems to leave a lot of them - maybe even most of them - feeling rather empty.

From the sounds of it it really could be either an impulsive jump or as there are reports that he was being erratic "when conscious", there's also the possibility that he was leaning on the balcony and simply passed out cold.

But he has openly talked about suicidal thoughts in the past so on balance of probabilities I personally think he "chose" to jump - to the extent that anyone can really make a choice in that state.
