Hmm. I didn’t perceive it that way but could be wrong. If that was the case, though, I wouldn’t have thought she would have stuck up for Khaled when everyone else started piling on with the fake thing.
I think it’s nuanced. She did say to Nathan that you can think someone’s a bit fake but still like them. I think that’s probably where she stands with Khaled. The thing with Khaled is, and he’s said himself, he comes across very much like he’s on his best behaviour at all times. Similar to Segun he is a bit of a people pleaser, wants to come across well etc. By default that means he’s not going to be quite as authentic as he would be otherwise. So I assume that’s what Ali’s picking up on if she thinks of him as ‘a bit fake’. But I think she understands now that that’s not coming from a bad place or from him being a game player/putting on a total act etc. He’s just genuinely a very kind, well-meaning guy who wants to behave well.
I do wish all these grown adults would stop using the word ‘fake’ to describe one another though! It’s so silly.
