Default Petition for another General Election

This has been up since last night and has got over 900,000 signatures. Nothing will happen but interesting to see just how many people have taken time to sign it.

The current government sucks and probably won't last the full term, but nothing's going to change due to a million people signing a petition

I think it sends a message though and hopefully the government will take note a bit?

So you're happy with this Government? Just a question? Are people not allowed to want anyone but Keir for Prime Minister. He's a disgusting excuse for a human being.

I'm very sure as Annie said, that large numbers of those who signed will be pensioners and farmers?

Should they 'suck it up'?

Right wingers and greedy ****s that have been allowed for far too long to get away with being greedy and being treated better than everyone else, can’t stand that there’s people in charge that isn’t bowing at their feet to help them carry on being greedy ****s

And the racists, don’t forget the racists that have also been allowed for too long to get away with their racism

I’ve just sat through 14 years of the Tories decimating lives and services. I’m prepared to give a government who have only been in power for 4 months time to undo all their shite yeah x

He’s come for wealthy pensioners and wealthy farmers.

When he’s coming to “pile up the bodies” as Boris put it then maybe I will start to be appalled.

Wealthy pensioners? Anyone above the threshold for pension credit has lost their winter fuel allowance. So anyone who gets more than just over Ł11k is wealthy? Not in my book.

Spot on is this

I don't agree with some things the government has done so far
Mainly the pensioners issue

I can tolerate most else.

There's no way 14 years of mismanagement and chaos can be sorted in months
This government was elected to restore continuing growth and invest in and build up public services.
Plus to save and protect the NHS.

If in 3 years signs of that are coming to be in place then that is what they'll really be judged on.
However I do also hope that Kemi Badenoch will be able to diffuse the dangerously divisive time bomb of the Reform Party and the odious creep Farage.
Their bigotry, divisive and destructive rhetoric is the very last thing the UK now needs.

Farmers are seldom wealthy. They're only "land rich" in that the land they farm would fetch X amount if they sold it to developers.

Someone inheriting a farm would be inheriting a business where they work a physically demanding job with long hours, and not great pay, so they can feed the nation.

I agree there should have been a kind of outer ring ceiling for the winter fuel payment.
So I'd have preferred anyone on under 15,000 income a year to still get it.

However I've been assisting done pensioners who didn't think they could get it.
Pensioners I know obviously.
I've found you can have over Ł220 stste pension as income, a very small private/works pension.
Can own your own home and have up to Ł10,000 savings.

Then still get pension credit of even just a couple of pound a week.

The Farmers should pay the tax, I've no problem with them being no longer exempt.

However yes, the winter fuel payment is a bad move.
Although I can accept it shouldn't be paid universally to all of pension age.

As for this petition.
Where were these at the time of the cruel bedroom tax, elderly put in danger in care homes during COVID.
Or the hateful.cruel new criteria of assessing the sick and disabled.

Why? So they need to sell off their land? So we lose parts of the countryside and deplete our food security?

They haven't properly considered the full package.

Plus Thatcher in the 80s made them exempt from inheritance tax.
This government was elected to try to plug all loopholes in taxation.
So it's right they shouldn't now still be exempt.

I didn't hear Farmers moaning at some pensioners losing the winter fuel allowance.
If anyone else is being penalised, the farmers aren't bothered as long as they can keep exemptions for them in place.

I'm afraid I've little sympathy for the Farmers on this issue.

it really all depends on the financial setup of the farm. If the farm is owned by an individual then it will be subject to the normal inheritance tax rules, which makes perfect sense if it is not a working farm. If the farm is setup as a private business then it will be exempt from inheritance task as all private business is
