I didn't notice you were in Cork. Some beautiful places in Ireland to visit, I know.

Yes, London - my hometown, although I live in Norfolk now - is really expensive but you can find cheaper accommodation if you go a but further out. Anywhere inside the M25 is reasonably well set-up for transport. And there are lots of places to visit and things to do that won't cost a fortune. I think you can fly to London City Airport from Cork, I'm reasonably sure. I know the flight from London City to Dublin takes less than an hour. Hope you decide to give it a go.

Thanks for that Livia, Cork actually has direct flights to Stansted Heathrow and Luton and only takes about an hour so it's quite handy that way, I'm definitely going to go for it in the new year

I love living in London. I have been to Dublin, but would love to visit Cork. Maybe in spring.

Great that you are enjoying London Vanessa, Regarding Cork it is quite a nice place and a lot of people who visit say they prefer it than Dublin not to mention It is far cheaper, I am not from the city myself, I live in the middle of nowhere around an hour away. I would definitely recommend visiting anyway

…it’s funny how quite often, if we live in the middle of nowhere…?…we can long for a more social city/town etc life…to have that activity and buzz…?…but then for some who have that, they can long for middle of nowhere life……to have that away from it all/quiet place….we humans are strange old creatures…wishing you well on your travelling adventures next year, Kev…small steps will lead to big steps or hopefully wherever you want them to lead…

I should have been at the airport now about to board for a once in a lifetime trip to Lapland for a few nights with my family.

Instead I’m at home poorly after spending my weekend and probably next few days in bed with the flu. I’m absolutely heartbroken. Not ashamed to say I’ve sobbed my heart out basically all day. It would have been my first holiday abroad in about 17 years. Utterly gutted.

We booked it back in January and my whole year has basically been leading up to this - I’ve always wanted to go and now it’s been snatched from me at the last minute. Don’t know if I’ll be able to get any money back either and it wasn’t cheap.
….awwwww….I’m so, so sorry, LaLa….…there are no other words really that I can say that would ease that disappointment in any way or anything that you’re feeling right now….maybe you will get your money back and that would be something in planning a ‘dream’ trip somewhere else next year when you’re feeling up to it and are able to fully enjoy it…Lapland right now with how you’re feeling…just wouldn’t have that magic that you’ve been dreaming of…

Nah they won’t be going again. Very much a one off for my little niece. I don’t/wont have kids so doubt I’ll get the chance to go again. All I’ve done all day is cry when I’m not asleep. Terrible luck.

I’m quite badly agoraphobic and struggle with depression, panic attacks and anxiety so I don’t do anything alone really, especially travel. This is why I’ve not been anywhere since I was in school (I’m almost 35). Gutted.

…I so much feel for you, LaLa…you’re obviously trying to process your disappointment plus your energy levels are at a complete low as well because if the virus…so it’s all just overwhelming ……I don’t know if there’s anything that you could do…(…when you’re feeling up to it…)..to ‘recreate’ something at home …something special for you after they’re back…or if it’s feasible as others have said…to maybe plan another trip somewhere else in the new year/in the spring etc…it won’t be Lapland, I know….but it could still be something very special …because the destination really isn’t the thing that will make that special happen…I know it’s so hard atm, but as they say…when life/circumstance gives you lemons, which it has done…?…the thing is, to see if you can turn it into something also magical and something to look forward to…

…I don’t know if this is any help, also…but it might be a starting point of possibly looking at connecting with others who have the same travelling anxieties also…

aw no that is really bad luck, maybe you were stressed about the holiday and your immune system took a dip? I hope you get your money back and if so maybe book something like a day trip to Paris or Lille on Eurostar, a day trip is very doable, this would maybe ease you into going away again?

You wouldn't have envied me yesterday Kate, our plane was diverted due to fog and we had to be bussed home, it was pretty organised though so not too bad....
