What absolute nonsense.

Although in an election right now, the result would most likely be, a Labour/ Lib Dem coalition.
Which may have been a better option.
Certainly as to more listening being done.

This is ridiculous however, democracy couldn't really work like this.

If that does get discussed/debated, it would amount to "hmmm, shall we call an election? Hmmm .... NOPE!"

As much as this crappy government needs its majority reduced, it won't happen yet. Though I can't see them lasting their full five years.

This petition has already reached 750,000 signatures in 24 hours.

It won’t be long before it passes 1 million.

Imagine if a new GE was called every time some of the people who voted the other way made a petition to call one .

it's also much harder to get rid of a labour leader than it is to dump a tory leader, so people are stuck with what they voted for

We've always had the most ridiculous of energy costs.

In my view a part of the problem on that was the disastrous privatisation of energy in the 80s by Thatcher's Conservative governments.
Competition did not bring cheaper energy at all.

Other issues have not helped in recent years, however the UK costs remained shockingly higher than elsewhere under the last 14 years of Conservative led government.
Who DID nothing in all those years to improve things

So to now expect within months someone else to sort that mess out is both unreasonable and ridiculous.

However in my view, energy should be under public ownership.
It's still a very popular policy with voters, one of the strongest policies too of the Corbyn leadership.
Miliband floated the idea again of nationalisation as to energy, way back in 2013 but got cold feet on it.

The Blair/ Brown government wouldn't consider it in their time at all.

So the mess remains.
I doubt much will or could be done to combat our shocking energy costs after those scenarios.
Unless a government will admit the massive incompetence over energy over the last near 40 years of just letting greed rule more as to energy companies.
27 years of Cons, 13 years of Labour.

Corbyn was the only leader with the right policy on energy and that was to re- nationalise it and get back at least some control on costing of energy again.
However the Country rejected him TWICE on that, preferring to ensure an equally damaging Brexit mess.
Plus to support a more prejudiced attitude rising against other human beings from other Countries.

I myself think re- nationalising energy is still a strong part of the answer.
Because I can't see how any change can come into play otherwise.
The energy companies have it sown up and the regulator is utterly useless.

These are not average energy costs in each country. They are actually the wholesale prices of electricity per megawatt hour for a single hour in December 2022.

Oh I don't doubt one second that you are right.
I rarely trust figures on most issues.
They can be made to say whatever the person wants them to say from their own positions.

I'm always reminded of the expression, there's lies, damned lies and then statistics.

However I would accept the UK has a disproportion of higher costs in bills for energy than many other Countries.

Sadly it seems less and less of what is being presented as fact is in fact more misleading than fact.
It's getting harder and harder to know what or even who to trust and believe now.
That's a massive worry, or should be.

the other side of the prices across countries is that different countries have different methods of doing the accounting, some are state owned, some are heavily subsidised etc. Lets also not forget that everyone in the UK got help with their fuel bills when prices were high.

It's impossible to compare like with like across countries. Things like social services, the NHS, pensions, minimum wage, employment protection and childrens subsidies all affect what the real price is for anything. No country has the same baseline
