The irony of being called triggered by someone who is triggered by everything.

I quite enjoy it, for the cringe humour, you have a strong David Brent vibe recently. I was just pointing out the absurdity of the curator of the "Woke Watch" thread himself, throwing around comments about "cheap culture wars". You do like to jump the shark sometimes.

Podcast staff needed therapy after working with Meghan, reports claim
Victoria Ward

Jan 17th

Podcast staff needed “long-term therapy” or took extended breaks from work after working with the Duchess of Sussex, Vanity Fair has claimed.
The magazine recounts a source alleging that the strain Meghan put on her colleagues when things went wrong was “really, really, really awful” and “very painful”.....

…..The high-profile magazine says it spent months speaking to dozens of people who have lived and worked with the Sussexes to establish how their new life has panned out.
The resulting, 8,000-word cover feature paints a picture of a couple whose approach to their new careers in the world of show business has not always been well-received.
Prince Harry is portrayed as a naive, lonely figure who has failed to make any friends and is desperate to reconnect with his family…..

……Meanwhile, the Duchess is portrayed as a ruthless boss who treats those who fail to impress her with contempt.
One person is quoted as saying that this manifested as “undermining”, adding: “It’s talking behind your back. It’s gnawing at your sense of self. Really, like, Mean Girls-teenager.”

One source told the magazine: “You don’t tell the couple ‘no’,” adding: “I left because I couldn’t live with myself anymore.”

But I think in the US, if anyone is a "celebrity" with any level of fame and living in CA, chances are they will be featured at some point in some headline and spotlighted in every other American news sources as "current" interesting news. If they had not lived in such a place, they'd never be featured... that industry is self-containing. Just move to any area, preferably not CA but not maybe not even NY, and the industry won't really bother them... that's why so many people who want to be famous will live off of ramen to afford to rent there in the hopes to get noticed, because location is so critical. Outside of that area, people just don't care about celebrity. But yeah, unfortunately, other channels with actual news feature them for clicks even though they're not really relevant to US matters... and it's because they live in a spot of the US that is known for being a media petri dish. So even people who don't care still have to hear about them... that's most celebrities, not just Harry or Meghan in the US. The celebrity thing is self-perpetuating... it's not an organic thing

I agree in part however you also can't discount the fact that social circles (some of them, of course, horrific social circles; I'm not saying Hollywood is was a happy place) are a huge draw for choice of where to settle. You can say "if people want privacy they can just move elsewhere" but this is a young/new family that now lacks blood-family ties, thus proximity to friends becomes more important.

I know this will be countered with "they chose to cut contact with blood family!"

and

"Hollywood celebrity pals are not good close friends to have!"

Both of which may be true, I personally find the former questionable but I know some people strongly advocate for accepting poor treatment from family "cos it's family", but anyway, this isn't about personal thoughts on the reasons...

All I'm really saying is, I don't think it should be dismissed out-of-hand that the reason "the famous" might end up cluistering like this, might not just be because of "wanting to be noticed and relevant". It's probably at least in part about community. Which humans (as social animals) crave. Whether or not it's a healthy community is not really relevant.

Exactly…it’s a forum for discussion and all of us give our own opinions on public figures we don’t know on a personal level. There is no place on here where your defence is “you don’t know them personally”…it’s a weak and pathetic cop out.

That's certainly the culture in that part of CA, though. She was raised deeply in that as I recall her father used to work lights. The problem is, she—like Harry—seem to really believe that the hustle of CA life itself trickles down to the masses in an even manner and eventually leads to some magical impression that they can then later turn to long-term success.. that may or may not pan out, as it's a very luck-based system... What doesn't help is poor Harry, his relevance was handed to him via birth. He's never going to be able to fully remake himself and that means he's somewhat pigeonholed. For Meghan, her career however minor was something she did have to work towards, but it was largely down to her father's occupation and being settled in such a small industry of talent so early on that gave her at least the basic skill to social climb... kind of like how the armorer who worked the Rust set (Baldwin shooting) used her father to get her foot in the door... and we know how that worked out. Edit: I wish her father was a bit more honest about his own role in what created the social hungry monster in her... not just the things he paid for, etc.

Online it does seem like bandwagon jumping is a more widespread thing, but in reality, it really does not trickle down to the masses the way that the internet can make Americans appear... it's just sort of there and we have to live with that noise...

I'd wager celebrity appeal has dropped substantially and continues to drop, not just Harry & Meghan's appeal, but the fact that these attention-seeking personalities can be found anywhere trying to hock some goods or services through their "super brand"... they joined that bandwagon way too late, imo. Maybe 15-20 years ago, they might've found a nice niche somewhere before the field became saturated with influencers...

Out of genuine interest Maru - how do you reconcile an apparent understanding that trickle-down concepts are a boatload of BS, with being an apparent Trump/Oligarchy supporter?

Porreres is typical of the small towns on the Mallorcan plain - nothing much to see, but an easy-going atmosphere and a good place to while away a couple of hours.

The fact it’s made headline news is ridiculous

They're similar but different enough. The palm.trees are different, the Spanish birds look like some kind of swift while Megan's look like humming birds... I'm not a Megan fan but this is a bit daft.
