It's hard to misinterpret any intentions when he's apparently built up so much anger (his own words) against a person who maybe he's known less than 24 hours?... I don't have solid impressions of people that early on and if I sense tension, I don't just "go for it"... I would feel too guilty and like I'm ruining someone elses chances to get along with other people. But maybe she is treating him like the scary ogre/soon-to-be house villain and sharing those vibes with the small group which seems to have formed around her? And formed really quickly, by the way... so it's possible we don't see it in the highlights... and his joke is less a direct thing and sort of like "Yeah, I don't give a sh** about you.. like at all"... But it's still rude what he did but I don't agree with her assessment that others have to "care" about one another... That's a strange statement to make so early as well.
