Transphobes won’t be happy until trans people are wiped completely from society, this poor person was just doing their job and has had the hounds set on them purely for existing, it’s utterly shameful but sadly not at all surprising

Ancient history
• 2000 BCE, Mesopotamia: Gala priests of the goddess Inanna lived in feminine roles despite being male-assigned at birth.
• 1500 BCE, India: Early references to Hijras, a recognized third gender in Hindu texts.

Classical era
• 5th century BCE, Greece: The poet Phrynichus mentions people living as women after being male-assigned.
• Roman Empire: Accounts of people adopting different gender roles, often mocked in literature but clearly present.

Medieval period
• 9th–15th centuries: Records across Europe show individuals living as a gender different from their assigned one, sometimes revealed only at death or through court cases.
• Middle East: Poetic and medical texts describe gender diversity, often linked to intersex and trans experiences.

Early modern era
• 1700s: Chevalier d’Éon, a French diplomat, lived much of their life publicly as a woman and was accepted at the royal court.
• 1800s: Dr. James Barry, a British army surgeon, lived his life as a man and was only revealed to be assigned female at death.

20th century
• 1930: Dora Richter in Germany underwent some of the first recorded gender-affirming surgeries.
• 1950s: Christine Jorgensen became internationally known after her transition, bringing the word “transsexual” into public awareness.
• 1969: Trans women of colour like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were central to the Stonewall uprising in New York.

21st century
• 2000s onwards: Legal recognition of third genders in South Asia, Two-Spirit revival among Native American communities, wider access to medical transition, and broader visibility of trans people globally.

Trans people have existed for at least 4,000 years across cultures. What’s new isn’t trans identity—it’s the visibility, rights, and language to talk about it openly.

Why are you relying on someone on a Big Brother forum to educate you on the history of trans people, why do you read a book or do a Google search.

Thanks for posting that @Glenn. it's good to hear the other side of the story (of someone who was actually there). I'm glad she was supported so much by her team. Sounds like she very much values her job and the joy it brings her. Good for her.

I think it was plainly obvious from the article all she was ask if they needed help (the article doesn't even state she did anything more?) so why people are pretending she did is a bit weird! Do people really think if she tried to do anything more it would be omitted from the article?

Medieval to early modern England
• Records exist of people living as a gender different from their assigned one. Some were only discovered after death or in court cases.
• Eleanor Rykener (1394): A known case in London, Rykener was arrested for sex work while living as a woman despite being assigned male at birth. The court records describe her living socially as female.

18th–19th century
• Several cases of people assigned female at birth living as men. They worked as soldiers, sailors, or tradesmen, often marrying women. Some were only found out after death.
• James Barry (1790s–1865): Born assigned female, Barry lived his entire adult life as a man, becoming a leading British army surgeon and reformer. His assigned sex was only revealed after death.

20th century
• 1940s: Roberta Cowell, a World War II fighter pilot, later became the first known British trans woman to undergo gender-affirming surgery in the 1950s.
• 1960s: April Ashley became one of the first well-known trans models in Britain. Her divorce case (1970) set restrictive legal precedents about gender identity.
• 1990s–2000s: Legal battles for recognition. The European Court of Human Rights ruled against the UK, leading to the Gender Recognition Act 2004, allowing trans people to legally change gender.

21st century
• 2010: Equality Act protected trans people from discrimination.
• 2020s: Fierce debates in media and politics, but trans people are increasingly visible in public life, activism, and culture.

Key point: Trans people in England aren’t new. From Eleanor Rykener in 1394 to James Barry in the 1800s to Roberta Cowell in the 20th century, they’ve always lived here. What’s changed is how the law and society treat them, not their existence.

Took 30 seconds to google

Having opinions on topics you know nothing about and don't care about seems odd but go off I guess!

Do you think that records only exist for the trans people that existed? Or could you concede there would be many trans people who existed who hid away, lived a different life or were never reported due to the way trans people have been treated throughout history.

Perhaps look at left handedness in the early 1900s compared to now. Only about 3-4% of were reported to be left handed, compared to around 12% now.

Of course, when we look at what it meant to be left-handed then compared to now we can see that the rise isn't down to anything other than more people 'admitting' to being so because they're no longer treated like they are abnormal, incestuous, evil or have their left hand tied behind their back to encourage right handed writing.

It was a medical term I once heard of, along with Body-Dismorphia.

I know that many years ago, the International Centre for Disease Control in one of its ICD documents once listed homosexuality as a disease, sort of. It no longer does in these more enlightened times.

The terms sounded like they would be in an ICD document. (I think we are now up to ICD12)

There are tall biological women.

Like on the last Season of BBUSA for example there was a contestant called Makensy who was really tall, and she definitely is a woman.
