Default Would you let your 13 year old watch BB?

Just curious..mine watched last night and a couple of episodes last year. I was 13 when I first watched it and it was waaaay worse back then, it's so sanitised these days. But apparently her dad is not impressed that she watched it. I watch it with her and answer any questions she has about it if they come up

Absolutely not. We make a huge effort that they're shielded from the ridiculous woke superficiality of shows like this. They're almost 5 and 6, so I know we have a long way to go till 13, but we're already heavily censoring what they see. I'd get rid of the TV and Internet if it was the only way to shield them from this crap before they're developed enough to understand these people are idiots.

Yes I would let them watch it. And if they had any questions I’d answer. Any decent parent would.

It's weird - it's definitely a castrated version of its former self, but somehow I'd let the C4/5 version babysit the FC rather than ITV.

A non-parent imagining "any decent parent" would do the same as him is insulting and provocative.

Big Brother isn’t corrupting kids, it’s a social experiment. If your kids grow up thinking everyone who doesn’t fit your view is an idiot, that’s a bigger problem than them seeing a few people argue on TV. Shielding them from everything just delays teaching them how to think critically about the world around them.

I'd hope mine wouldn't be interested in reality TV at that age but if they are then I don't see a problem with it, especially with a parent present. I was watching southpark and whatever other inappropriate trash was on TV back when I was 13 and there was no vigilance whatsoever. I'm more concerned about how late it's on, I want my kid to go to bed at 8pm forever.

They have seen much worse things at a much younger age on the internet so yeah, BB is nothing compared to that

I started watching at the exact same age so it would be rather hypocritical if I did

I wish my kid would watch it with me instead of the brainrot he watches on TikTok, I might then get a bit of conversation out of him lol. I don't censor much of what he watches now tbf (he is nealry 15) but i do have a no phone upstairs policy so I can monitor it a little as he's in the same room as me.

That’s a good idea about the phones, though it would never work on my nephew, he’s too attached to his phone to watch YouTube and play Roblox (he’s 11)

Haha yes I think this sometimes too. I get to spend a bit time with her and she's watching something that's not 'youtube shite'

I would like my imaginary child to form their own opinions.

So my answer would be yes.

…I think for me your last sentence is the key in that you watch it with her…so that you know that she’s comfortable with any content and that you’re comfortable with all/any understandings …you know your daughter, Vicky and you’re there watching with her, that’s showing great parenting, I think…
