Both are unacceptable and deserve consequences, yes. What contributes to the argument collapsing is ignoring his blatant racism, by claiming anyone who questions his wishing death on those different to him, are racist themselves. It's a very ironic contradiction.

I didn't. I said she was under extreme provocation. 31 months in jail was far too harsh.

Calling it “extreme provocation” is an excuse. Lots of people feel provoked. Most do not call for people to be burned alive.

You do not get to say racism is wrong and then downgrade it when it comes from someone you sympathise with. That is the double standard people keep pointing out.

You can argue the sentence was too harsh. Fine. That is a separate debate. But pretending her words were somehow understandable because she was upset is still minimising what she actually said.

You are still doing it. You just keep changing the excuse.

Now it is “extenuating circumstances”. Before it was provocation. Before that it was remorse. Every time the same behaviour gets a new label so you can defend one and condemn the other.

Deleting a tweet after you post it does not magically undo what was said. Racism does not become less racist because someone panicked afterwards.

And remorse is not something you get to declare into existence because it suits your argument. Plenty of people delete things when they realise there are consequences. That is not moral growth. That is self preservation.

You are bending over backwards to split hairs because you want one person punished and the other cushioned. That is the double standard. That is what you keep refusing to own.
