Default GB News overtakes BBC for the first time

[GB News has overtaken the BBC as Britain’s
most watched news channel for the first time.

New figures from official ratings agency
Barb show GB News beat both
BBC News and Sky News during key time
slots in July, in a major coup for the
start-up broadcaster just after its
fourth birthday.

The latest data show GB News pulled
in an average audience of 80,600 across each
day in July. That was ahead of BBC News
on 78,700 and 67,000 for Sky News.

GB News also triumphed during the
breakfast show and primetime
weekday evenings, as well as during
the Sunday morning political slot,
which is hosted by Telegraph associate
editor Camilla Tominey.]

GB News is an actual news channel? I thought they just cried about stuff being woke all day. I thought it was satire mocking the far-right.

There is a rise in younger people seeking out religion, but usually from a spiritual/community perspective as opposed to aligning themselves with traditional values and outdated attitude that religion can often bring.

I haven't seen any data regarding 'gays' aligning themselves with religion more and more - the percentage of Christian LGBT people still sits around 62-65%, but would be super interested to see the source, would make for an interesting read.

I myself have been reading more and more about Buddhism recently as a way to use spirituality as a mindfulness practice, so I do see the appeal but I don't think it will manifest itself in an increase of right-wing values that most religions promote. I think as older generations die, religion will become a far more modern and spiritual concept rather than following a book of made up rules to live by.

There's been a large increase at my local COE, many I know to be young and gay, as well as young families. It's beautiful to see all the new faces every Sunday morning. I can only assume this is happening at the Christian churches all over the UK. I don't have stats, this time. But you could Google it yourself and find out @BBXX

I did but couldn't find anything pointing to an increase is gay people attending church or turning to Christianity, that's why I asked just incase you had some.

The only stat I could find is that two thirds of gay Christians do not feel safe to be themselves in their place of worship but nothing about there being a notable rise.

Yes, many LGBTQ+ individuals are turning to God, finding faith within affirming Christian spaces that welcome their identities, while others in more traditional faiths seek transformation from same-sex attraction through prayer and repentance, leading to diverse paths of faith that include celibacy, heterosexual marriage, or embracing their identity as part of God's creation. There's a growing recognition across denominations that God loves all people, including those who are gay or transgender, challenging older views that deemed their identities sinful.

Google AI, when searching......are LGBTQ turning to God.

From ChatGPT:

There is no clear statistical trend showing LGBTQ+ people increasingly taking up Christianity
- The census figures are a snapshot from 2021 — the first time these questions were asked together — so they do not show a clear trend over time of gay people increasingly becoming Christian.
-To date, there isn’t published census or large-scale survey data showing a measurable increase in the number or proportion of gay people in the UK converting to or identifying with Christianity over time. If anything, the majority are non-religious in the data available
- Some reports suggest younger people have shown higher engagement with Christian activities (e.g., Bible sales and church attendance), but this is not specific to LGBTQ+ people, and it doesn’t equate to a measurable rise in gay people becoming Christian

From Google when asking if there is a rise in gay people turning to Christianity in 2025.
- There is no evidence to suggest a specific rise in gay people turning to Christianity in the UK. Recent 2025 reports indicate a general increase in young adults, particularly young men, engaging with Christianity
- Reports published in 2025, such as "The Quiet Revival" by the Bible Society, highlight a notable increase in church attendance among young people (18-24 year olds) in the UK, often attributed to a search for community and meaning. However, these reports do not specifically break down this increase by sexual orientation.
- Discussions within the Church of England in 2025 continue to focus on inclusion and same-sex blessings, indicating ongoing internal debate and potential discomfort for some LGBTQ+ individuals within traditional church settings. Surveys have previously suggested that many LGBT+ Christians do not feel safe or able to be themselves in church.
- In summary, while there is a general rise in some young people engaging with Christianity, there is no data to support a specific or disproportionate rise among the gay community in the UK. Existing data suggests the opposite trend in terms of proportional representation.

Genuine question @BBXX , in your experience, which religion/religions do the LGBT community feel most "welcoming" in this day and age? I would guess Christianity as certain sections of Christianity are very welcoming to all. But obviously there are also very homophobic sections of Christianity which im sure makes young LGBT members weary.

This is where i come in, the feet on the ground, witnessing stuff a chatgp can't...chatgpt can't say, because new church attendees are not asked their sexuality at the church door....but old parmys gaydar is not one to be messed with....plus I know the 3 new church goers, and know they are gay.

Knowing three people doesn’t undo a national report. That’s just anecdote.

This still isn’t evidence. It’s just vibes and very broad claims.

Many LGBTQ+ people are turning to God doesn’t show they’re behind the rise in attendance, and quoting Google AI definitely doesn’t make it data.

You’re bundling totally different, often conflicting experiences together and calling it a trend. Without actual numbers, it’s still just speculation.

Honestly, I wouldn't like to say I know the answer to this, but I would assume it would be those most accepting of homosexuality: Buddhism, Judaism and Christianity.

In all seriousness @Parmy I am glad your church is being enhanced by some fabulous gays and I am glad some gay people are finding comfort in faith, even if I don't understand it.
