This is the first time I've heard that and I'm very sad to hear about your loss, but even more upset that you're now having to listen to this dipshit trivialize your loss. I don't think an apology fixes it, as he's said similar disparaging things towards our own military. It should've been obvious this is not something to say in the first place.

Thanks @Maru and @Zizu, it's a while ago now, I remarried and had a lovely family, but I remember the pain and so many people went through it, not just spouses, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends... To have it trivialised makes me so mad. It was bad enough when Biden pulled out of Afghanistan making our own position untenable and making it feel like it was all for nothing, but Trump's words stamp on the more than 450 graves, never mind those who were wounded losing limbs and sometimes their mind. Britain was there from start to finish. His words were unthinkably callous.

The problem is that he has history. Look how he treated McCain, look what he has said about his own soldiers who died in wars. It's not someone who is clumsy with his words. He means exactly what he says and people do need to stand up to him

I believe many have placated him in the past because they felt that was the best way to keep him in his box, but they now know that strategy no longer works. Behind the scenes, all sorts of things are being planned to mitigate against the worst of it. Very little will come out in public, but the easiest way to defend against this is to hit America where it hurts, in it's wallet. America is very vulnerable because it is servicing a huge debt mountain that is growing all the time. Just watch what happens there over the next 18 months

Secret recordings show Ted Cruz harshly criticizing Trump and Vance

After Trump's tariffs in early April 2025, Cruz said that he and a few other senators had a call with him, trying to get him to stand down. He conceded it "did not go well" as the call stretched past midnight. Trump was "yelling" and "cursing."

"Trump as in a bad mood," he said. "I've been in conversations where he was very happy. This was not one of them."

He told donors that he tried to explain, "Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people's 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10–20 percent at the supermarket, we're going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath."

"You're going to lose the House, you're going to lose the Senate, you're going to spend the next two years being impeached every single week," Cruz added.

Trump replied: "F— you, Ted."

Cruz also dealt several blows to Vance, calling him a "protégé" of disgraced former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. He said that it was Carlson who "created" Vance.

He noted that it was Carlson and Vance who got rid of Mike Waltz from the administration, after the ex-congressman resigned from office to join the administration at the Pentagon.

Cruz said that Waltz "supported being vigorous against Iran and bombing Iran — and Tucker and JD took Mike out."

Carlson told Axios that it isn't true.
