Being realistic, it's not very likely that a woman in her 80's would survive an extended ordeal like that. There aren't many people at that age that don't require daily medications. That, together with the stress and the blood found at the scene, are not good omens. I would imagine that any ransom demand requires proof of life, and thats not even been mentioned.
