…I thought Jessie Ware’s The Way We Were performance was extremely emotional and powerful ….especially as the movie was such an attachment to Robert Redford obviously and the ending tribute was to him…

BBC sorry
for airing racial slur shouted by guest
with Tourette's at Baftas

[BBC has apologised for not editing out a racial slur
from its Bafta Film Awards coverage after
a guest with Tourette's syndrome shouted out when
two black actors were on stage.

John Davidson, whose life story inspired
the film I Swear, shouted the N-word as
Sinners stars Michael B Jordan and Delroy Lindo presented
the first prize of Sunday's ceremony.

The moment was not edited out of the BBC One broadcast,
which was shown on a two-hour delay, and remained on
BBC iPlayer on Monday morning before being removed.

A BBC spokesperson said: "We apologise that
this was not edited out prior to broadcast and it will now
be removed from the version on BBC iPlayer."

…it’s a bit of a layered one really because it wasn’t shown live so it could have been easily edited out but then the irony of the whole movie and John Davidson’s life and campaigns and struggle for understanding to have just edited it away…but I also understand the impact of what was said for those actors and for so many people…on this occasion it’s important to consider who said it also and that it displays so much of a condition that has been deemed ‘socially unacceptable’ for many, many years/decades and the difficulties and judgement for those who sadly live with that condition…

Furious Jamie Foxx reacts to Tourette's activist John Davidson's BAFTA outburst with bold statement

Jamie Foxx should educate himself, and perhaps stop saying the same word in his movies.

Does Jamie Foxx himself use that word? For some reason I associate him with having more class and decorum than that.

The movie Sinners (for which those two guys were accepting an award) is littered with the N-word, they can't pretend to find it offensive when it's said by someone who isn't part of the Hollywood machine.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and I want to say it in the gentlest way possible: it’s surprising that in 2026 we’re still seeing people argue that the n‑word is acceptable in everyday conversation simply because an actor used it in a script. That’s not really how context works.

When a word appears in a film, TV show, or play, it’s being used within a very specific framework — usually to reflect a time period, a character’s worldview, or a social reality the story is trying to explore. It’s not meant as a blanket endorsement for casual use, and it definitely doesn’t remove the weight the word carries outside that fictional setting.

If anyone isn’t sure why the word is so sensitive, I’d really encourage taking a bit of time to read about its history. It has a long, painful, and complicated background tied to racism, violence, and dehumanisation. Understanding that history makes it much clearer why people react strongly to hearing it used casually.

This isn’t about attacking anyone — it’s about recognising that language has power, and some words carry centuries of harm behind them. Learning that context helps all of us navigate these conversations with more care and awareness.
