I’m hearing that tax cuts might feature in the State of the Union, and honestly that sets off alarm bells for me. The big question is: tax cuts for whom? It’s hard to take that seriously when affordability issues are hitting people across the country — issues Trump keeps insisting don’t exist.

If these cuts end up favouring the wealthiest again, we already know how little that does for everyone else. Household costs keep rising, and meanwhile he’s busy building a ballroom. The whole thing has a bit of a Marie Antoinette feel to it.

At this point, who knows what comes next. But one thing’s certain: we’ll be talking about this speech for weeks and picking it apart from every angle. So let’s see what Trump actually puts forward tonight.

Terrible so far. The audio balance is a mess, the mics are all over the place, and half the time he sounds like he’s outright shouting. It’s genuinely painful to listen to.

And he always sounds so angry. The Christmas address was excruciating — just constant complaining and moaning. Tonight feels like more of the same.
