I'm pretty sure they eject separately, at probably around 900 miles an hour in the dark over strange terrain, it'd be easy to be separated . @bots might know more about this.

even if they were ejected 5 seconds apart, there could be a big distance between them. Also, depending on the angle of the plane, they could be ejected in entirely different directions
