Checked daily at 10 am, full computer scan, it could be crapware I haven't got rid of. There is a lot of it put on machine these days as you can see from this article in the Wall Street Journal.

Also depends on how many icons you have on your desktop. If your programmes are saved in your briefcase or in your documents and not on the desktop, that will speed up starting time.

Maybe this is a vista problem then? I've never really had any of the problems mentioned in that link and my boot ups have always been fine. Part of the reason I stuck with xp+ the ludicrous amount of ram vista takes up.

There is nothing on my desktop, but do have the side bar running which takes some of the the time up. I hate cluttered dsktops.

I'm looking into possible boot up problems now by looking at the event viewer. According to Sony a 2 minute boot up time is about average for a Windows Vista portable (see wall street journal video in the link above), given my PC is a high end machine with costing around Ł900 it should be better than average.

You can get a higher spec MacBook for Ł900 which boots in under 30 seconds and doesn't come with crapware.
