He's slamming the celebrity culture, the media for giving it so much coverage and the public for their appetite for it. And he's one hundred percent right.

I think if he wants to make that point he should only use her as an example and not have a go at her, she was a nice woman, maybe not educated and not a 'lady' but is that honestly her fault? It is all she knows, she shouldnt be called Princess Di, but thats exactly what she is for the poorer generation.

She helped a lot of people and most of the time had a smile, but she was relatable to the poorer section of britain, I think people like Parkinson need to realise that not everyone is brought up with a great education and you do get the more common people from poorer familes. It is shallow minded to think that, but I think Parkinson was getting there but then got a bit too personal.

As bold as this sounds, Jade Goody is the Princess Di for the poorer society.

I agree with that Fom, I've been trying to convey that for so long.

Theres a huge class divide over it

People who are middle class and above (or pretend to be that they are when really they're just high end working class) tend to look down thinking they're better

Working class seem to be more sympathetic and accepting, probably because one of "them" managed to make something of themselves

i think he has every right to put his opinion across and good on him for having those views especially after everything but to say shes everything whats wrong with the country is unfair imo

****** me Fom, that's offensive.

I'm from your 'poorer' area, and I don't find her relatable at all!

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but my opinion is that I believe his opinion is wrong and un fair. He was getting to the right point and then went too far.

Maybe I shouldn't group the poor together but I am saying it on a general scale. People like Jade Goody's family. You know the type.

I didn't look up too her but I knew people like her, and I was happy for her while she was alive.

I don't relate to her at all. I was brought up on a council estate, and we never had money. I don't even relate to her. I made the most of what I had, and made the most of the education I had. Ok, I didn't go to university, but I left school, got a job, and attended college part-time.

I don't consider that I 'made something of myself' or dragged myself out of the gutter. I definitely don't consider people like Jade Goody to be "one of us".

She's the furthest thing from me or anyone I relate to.

And, to be honest, you come over as a middle-class spoilt brat in that post.

Some people probably thought she had an endearing quality first time around ... everyone knows a Jade (although to a much much lesser degree and she was just a characature [sp?])

I think thats what he's getting at when he says relatable

I think you are taking my post a little to serious, I generalized to get a point across, I didn't mean all poor people look up to her and idolize her. I thought people would get what I was getting at.

I am not middle class and I am not spoilt.

You have to admit that you seriously generalised the 'poorer people'.

If someone were to post on here generalising about Blacks or Muslims, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who would get *****ed off about it.

Maybe I'm the only one on here who wants to admit I'm not middle-class.

I hate the terms 'poorer people' and 'lower class', I think they almost dehumanise someone. I think working class is a lot better ... but I don't really think class matters anyway because class divides are merging and just because you have money doesn't mean you're any better than someone who doesn't ...

Right well if it offended you I take back what I said, it was not meant offensively. I am sure some people think I go out there to insult people, I didn't go out to do that.

And I just admitted I am not middle-class, but I don't think thats important.

Fair enough. I didn't think you went out to offend. However, you did offend, and I accept that you didn't intend to.

Tom, I don't think class divides are merging where I live. Class is very much alive and well up here.
