Don't be ridiculous, you can think that a black person would make a bad politician without being racist.

Politics needs people in the House Of Commons who are going to speak out on issues without tip-toeing around evading questions

and thats why I believe Derek would be a welcome addition as an MP because hes not one to mince his words.

And just because he is an MP doesn't automatically guarantee him a cabinet post. He would need to work for that.

*ducks to dodge the flying pigs, and crosses the street to avoid the band playing believe it if you like* POPPYCOCK! The tories aren't in office because of weak leadership and the fact that they campaigned with a manifesto of racism, bigotry, and plans to dismantle the NHS.

And, of course, Derek is going to completely reverse the status quo, isn't he? After all, he's not the brown-nosing, obsequious lickspittle type at all ... The ability to browbeat a couple of simpering, walking bikini hangers, slither unctuously all over men young enough to be his children and harbouring a blatant hatred of his intellectual superior for being comfortable in his own skin are just the qualities we’ve been crying out for in UK politics.

No, he just mispronounces them and uses them in the wrong context.

And grass is green and the sky blue. Well, there's a first time for everything, I suppose.

Basic conservatism: racism, misogyny, homophobia and one-upmanship. Xenophobia, bigotry and intolerance. Minuscule tax cuts to appease the working class backbone of the nation, massive tax cuts for the old-school-tie brigade feeding on the marrow of the needy, and then privatise everything in sight and sell it back to the people that already owned it in the first place to foot the bill.
100% agreed.

Are you talking about Conservatism in general or just the Conservative party?

If you're talking about the party, then the fact that Derek is in the party must eliminate the homophobia factor. The only parties that can be considered racist are the BNP and the National Front (both running on political idealogies which are extreme right-wing).

Yes, I'd agree that the Conservatives are intolerant and use the flagship tax-cut issues to appeal to the working class and whenever they do get in power, they would more than likely privatise as much as they could. I think they are bad for Britain. Agreed.

No I would not vote for Derek Laud if he stood in my constituency as a Conservative. I disagree with fox hunting and am Liberal.

Either or. The Republicans, for example, are a conservative party, and Reagan, Bush and Bush jnr. are all clear examples of the negative (although I'd struggle to find anything positive) aspects of conservatism.

Not at all. That point is rather lost when you consider Ted Heath, Robin Cook, or Tony Benn, etc. All of them famously at odds with their party ethic, yet still representing them in parliament. But Derek is himself homophobic and racist, so again the point is inaccurate. And just because the bigotry is latent rather than providing the core of the entire party manifesto, it doesn't discount its existence one iota.

I wouldn't vote for him, as holds views with which I can never agree.
I cannot envisage ever voting for a conservative candidate again in my life.
My very first vote was tory - but I was simply reflecting my parents views at the time. They thought if you voted 'toff' you bettered yourself. In fact they were working class.
As for a prominent role in the Conservative party - well, there is very little competition, so it might just be possible I suppose.

However, I suspect he will continue to write instead.

I'd need more reason than it would be a right laugh! And I'd rather have Blair in, than any Tory.

Really? That's interesting. There's a parallel universe out there somewhere, where milk tastes sweet, horses have two heads, and I'm 5' 10'' with 36C breasts.

I don't post on the other forum - I joined there but found it to be very unfriendly, so I stopped going there. I haven't noticed that his colour is an issue at all on this forum. The reason I wouldn't vote for him is because he is a Tory, and right now, I cannot imagine ever voting for a Tory.

i hate it when people question your judgement and call you a racist because of it.. and it has nothing to do with race at all.

its my biggest pet hate. when people brand other people 'bully', 'racist' 'sexist', over little STUPID things.

i dont for one moment believe that any of you are racist, not at all.

i was having this debate with a few female students i know, and a few were quite adamant that they would never vote for a 'black tory'.

i was appaled at this.

i myself have stated earlier in this thread that i WOULD vote for him, without a thought for his colour.

I definitely would NOT vote for him, also without thought for his colour.

why did these female students say such a thing?
If they weren't racist the only other reason I could think of is that they wouldn't trust the black tory as it's not exactly doing he/she any favours is it now?!

I guess that's why they were voting Tory in the first place haha.
Only joking, I guess there are many Tory supporters who aren't racist...perhaps
