Definitely the early stuff, but not so much when Robert Smith gained pop sensibility. I don't think looking goth cuts the mustard Or bands that simply have goth fans.. If that were the case, Marilyn Manson, Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and others could be considered goth at one time or another.

I think a band has to be pretty deliberately goth .
