I do; I've always stuck by that (as Stu knows ), because of the way things can be misconstrued over the Internet, swearing magnifies that. If you said something like "I effing hate you" in a joking way in real life; people would pick up on that through your body language, but you don't have that on the Internet. We'd have far more arguments (or at least, the scope for far more arguments) if there were no swear filter in place. Trying to go around it is, in my opinion, sad; there's always another way to express yourself without swearing on the forum.

Same old tired arguments. Swearing does not indicate a lack of ability to express oneself. Why don't we say the same thing about smileys?

The fact that people know your swearing when astrixes appear anyway make the filter irrelevant - refute that if you will. It's ****.

Just use the filter. For one thing,it makes it's easier for the mods, rather than getting all these reports of swearing.

That's a fair point, and I agree with you to a certain extent, however, I don't really understand the big deal regarding arguments here anyway. As far as I have noticed and experienced, the arguments that usually happen aren't rude or insulting, and people seem to argue maturely. Recently though threads have been closed just because of this, and tbh, it's like telling everyone that they MUST get on. On the subject of using other words, 'swear words' are just words, used mainly (as far as I've noticed) to enhance sentences or points.

But fair point anyway

People report the swearing?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhahahaha.

I can gurantee you that's a personal thing, rather than people actually caring about the swearing.

Wait, people actually report uncensored swearing?

I'm with Stu, and if any of our posts have been reported, I have a pretty good idea of who has 'done the deed'

The thing that bugs me is that our posts are moderated and judged for quality on trivial things like swearing and not the actual content of the posts. How many young members abide by the rules and don't swear yet contribute absoloutely nothing to the forum?

And how come foreign, abstract versions of the Englis language are tolerated but swearing isn't? What if I find imperfect language offensive? Can I report that and will you edit all those posts too?

In which case, would you be willing to take on a further thirty seven active moderators?

Tbh I don't mind the swearing,I just don't see why you have to dodge the filter. Just swear when you're writing the post and then let the filter sort it. PLEASE!

I didn't say that; but there's no refuting that you can express yourself without swearing. There's no necessity to swear (and you can argue that there's no need to not swear, it's an argument that comes down to personal opinion) but for the sake of the forum's rules, why not just obey them instead of trying to go around the filter? It's tedious.

What do you mean by abstract versions of the English language? And imperfect? We give out to people for text speech.

Because going around the filter is funzies. Anytime I see someone who has adopted the practices I started back here about a year ago a bit of me swells wit pride .

Your right though. It's all down to personal opinion. Smileys aren't necessary for making points either, are they? But some people use them. Some people use gifs. I don't. I swear a lot.

Not most of the time, you don't. Plenty of regulars post complete garbage in a completely garbage style.

If I had my way nothing would be moderated. People saying what they want to say and how they want to say it. No rules. No nothing. Live and let live, it's a forum afterall.

I'm almost with you. We should just have one rule and one rule only : the rule of common sense. Just ban the trash. The way most forums work.

This is the only forum I've been to where even the minor rules are enforced like hell but the rule of common sense does not come into play. It's too by the book. You can be as much of a mongloid, fail tastic, non contributing child you want but as long as you stay within the rules it's all good.

That's the type of stuff that brings quality down - not cussing.

Yeah, but wouldn't that be great? Come on. Picture it. Freedom

But yeah, common sense being the one rule, I agree with Stu. Again.

This is a thread without a subject my friend. Not a chat thread, just a subjectless thread. The subject may change tommorow, it may change in twnety seconds.

Now that the topics gone off swearing I think it's time for a name change.

No, never had a portable music player of any sort. Music deserves my full attention. When I'm outside I like to just listen to the sounds around me.

I'm actually the same as it happens, unless I decide to go for a late night run and need music to keep me going, you know?
