I've seen him perform live on a number of occassions. An absolute legend. 34. Ambient trance can sound horrendously tacky and forced when in the wrong hands, but with a man like Ulrich Schnauss what you get is blissful, hypnotic music, washing over you with beautiful layers of melody. 33. 32. 31. The way they enfused electronic dance rhythms and beats with driving guitar riffs has never been equalled. Dig Your Own Hole is a masterpiece. Last edited by setanta; 07-02-2010 at 03:17 PM. |

29. 28. My favourite of Dempsey's - Kilburn Stroll - isn't on youtube so this one will have to do for the time being. Still a very catchy song though. 27. A genius as far as I'm concerned who's hopeful music, which actually was of huge inspiration to the civil rights movement in America, contrasted so pointedly with his impoverished background. Curtis Mayfield is an artist I'll always have a great deal of affection and respect for. 26. Louis Armstrong was in very poor health when John Barry approached him to pursuade him to sing one of his main themes for On Her Majesty's Secret Service, so much so in fact that on the day everyone feared that the man wouldn't be able to perform. Such worries were short lived once the great man got up to the microphone and what we have now is a beautiful last song to remind us of the magic the man possessed. I'd probably go for Once in a Lifetime but there's no proper versions of it on youtube. Anyway, this is just as good. They're quality full stop really. |

Yeah, I've always liked that track from Turin Brakes and Richard and Linda Thompson's stuff is just wonderful, melochonic folk music with a touch of rock. You'd really like their albums or the best of one - it's a cracker actually.

I could literally go for dozens of tracks from this man, but I'll opt for a more obscure one from earlier on his career that was only good enough to put on the B-side with My Cherie Amour! Amazing. What a man. |

I suppose it's the most strikingly personal and pointed lyrics that the band have ever written, dealing as it does with their former band member, Syd Barrett, who was suffering from mental illness, having left the band to live a reclusive existence away from the limelight. This was their tribute to him and it's a sensational piece. |

Yeah, he was great. I just love how the band captured the essence of the man and their feeling for him with Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Just a masterpiece. He came into the studio while they were recording it too. You can really sense the emotion underlying the whole piece.. gorgeous song.

Oh, this is the shi$e. I'm getting to the stage where they all mean so much to me, both the song and artist. Edit: I can't decide!! He has so many classics. Last edited by setanta; 07-02-2010 at 09:15 PM. |
