Default Car insurance question

Over the last weekend my dad insured me as a learner driver on the family Vauxhall Zafira (ikr.. it's a big car!) for the next 6 months so I have plenty of practice before I take my test. I've driven it out on the roads with my dad with L plates on the car a few times already. The thing is we haven't recieved the confirmation letter that says I'm insured on the car.
So is it illegal to go out driving without recieving the documentation or is it ok without it?

You are insured and if you're stopped for any reason you get 7 days to show your certificate to the police.

I'd phone the insurers though and ask for your certificate.

Oh thanks Tom! I'll ask dad to give them a ring I was just worried that if I was stopped at any point me or my dad would get into trouble and get fined/have points.

I think it's late arriving.. I was just concerened that going out driving without getting the certificate was illegal.

And thanks Lewis.. got a long way to go though! Haven't booked it and I'm far from ready. My instuctor says I should be able to do my test in OCTOBER but that's without private practice so hopefully with it I can do my test in August/September.

Another question.. how much does private practice help? Cause atm I'm finding it a little confusing because my intructor's telling me to do one thing and my dad's telling me to do it a different way (ie; dad telling me put clutch down when going over speed bumps ad instructor telling me to brake before speed bumps)

Private practice helps a huge amount - the more the better. BUT I would advise you to listen to the Instructor since he is following EXACT procedure for the purposes of passing your test. Once you are a seasoned driver you will find ways of refining your skills like your Dad has, but you have to do it by the book in order to pass your test.
