But saying that at least we don't have the problem of prescription drugs addiction over here. In the States, it's always been a big thing. It still does happen here but to a much less extent.
People like to brush it under the carpet. A sub-culture they like to pretend does not exist. Full of prozzies, pimps ect. There are mant programmes that do help, but it also does have to work both ways, it's gotta depend on how much they really want it and really strong willed they are. Because most likely, they will have been pretty vunerable to get hooked in the first place.

That is so true. It's so sad how even though people want help they can't do anything about it because they need the drugs.

Watch Trainspotting Callum

As part of my 1st degree, the thesis was about the impact of health rehabilitation clinics and government health campaigns. I centred it on exactly the part of Edinburgh that the book and movie were based upon. I soon learned the futility of the folks' situations and why heroin became an almost logical choice when no prospect of employment, no hopes and sod-all to do all day.

Trainspotting tries in it's way to depict the dire situation and hopelessness.

I would but the graphic heroin use would make me feel queasy.

After a serious operation I was given the medical version of heroin (it's called diamorphine). It just makes you feel sleepy and takes the cares away.

After 3 days the medics stop it as it can become so quicky addictive. I have to admit, ven after 3 days, I was upset when they stopped mainlining me as had to come back into the real world. When I was bored in hospital bed, even when in little pain I'd get them to diamorph me to pass the time/tedium

Heroin abuse says as much about your mental and social state than anything

The documentary Black Tar Heroin was filmed from 1995-1998? So in that case if the users carried on with their junkie lifestyles chances are most of them are now dead?

Sad

I mean about different ways of taking it. I'm not into drugs and don't really live in a part of the country where they are too much of a problem (Cornwall). I thought, before I saw this thread, that they used to spoon to eat it or something. I know it sounds silly but it's true. Thanks InOne for giving all of this information. I makes me think a lot about people who are addicted to drugs.

Only dead if the addiction led to dangerous criminal activity/murdered by others/overdosed.

Serious users know the limits and can survive to same ripe old age as anyone else..........it's not in itself a killer.

That is so sad. I know this sounds mad but if I had to try one drug I'd choose heroin. Just because I've always thought of it as the worst drug and I have a phobia of needles, it would be a way of facing my fear. Also I'm quite intrigued to know what it feels like when the fluid's inside you.

Would never try it voluntarily though.

I'd imagine it would be a pretty good feeling. The closest i've come to trying it is morphine.
