Like ladykillers with songs. This was what the "songs you might recognise" thread soon became thanks to BB_Eye's revelations
![]() Basically post songs that have unabashedly stolen from others in an attempt to demean their worth. ![]() Example #1: Radiohead's "Karma Police". You should recognise it. has an uncanny resemblance to a song from a little-known band called The Beatles. "Sexy Sadie": Example #2: I posted this in a separate thread not too long ago. The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" should be something you know. BUT WHAT'S THIS? A string version of a Rolling Stones song. and my final offering. #3: Rogue Traders' "Voodoo Child". not only did it steal a name of an already known song, but it nicked a bit of Elvis Costello too.

Lmao, did Rogue Traders give Elvis Costello any credit?
I heard about Bittersweet Symphony a while ago, was a bit miffed that my favourite Verve track was all a dirty LIE but I'm more pissed with them for letting Jason Derulo have it tbh.

Also their song 'History' is a paraphrase of a William Blake poem.

These didn't get away with it but only ones I can think of atm:
#1: Controversy arose after Christina Aguilera's 'Stripped' album was released due to one song, 'Make Over', sounding similar to the Sugababes 'Overload'. Despite Aguilera & Linda Perry being noted as the only songwriters, over time, the original Sugababes lineup, as well as other personnel involved in 'Overload' were added to ASCAP's credits. Christina Aguilera - Make Over Sugababes - Overload #2;; Girls Aloud's 'Life Got Cold' used the same guitar riff as Oasis' 'Wonderwall'. The girls did get away with it at first, but were eventually forced into crediting Oasis. Girls Aloud - Life Got Cold Oasis - Wonderwall

Sadly, I think this was a rare instance where the person sampling it didn't improve on it in any way whatsoever.

Pretty sure Oasis pinched that riff too, though.

Lol, I always thought "Life got Cold" sounded exactly the same as Wonderwall.
I seem to remember Eternal producing a particularly shameless (not to mention awful) pastiche of this song. Edit: Ah, I remember it now.

This was quite a famous case. I think Huey Lewis won and Ray Parker Jr has to give him joint credit. I t sounds so much like the theme to ghost busters, its embarrassing.

BFMV ripped off A7X's opening riff to Unholy Confessions, and simply made it higher pitched. Shame, I like BFMV aswell. :/ How could they?

This would make me laugh if it weren't so pathetic. They sound exactly the same. They even both have 'Mr' in the title.

Take this song, remove the exciting beats, charismatic singer and memorable hook.
and you get....

Haha, I just remember it 2004. A time before iTunes took over and when record companies thought any old unlistenable s*** would sell.
Now for some plagiarism, Andrew Lloyd Webber style.

Recognise the intro to this 1963 Marvin Gaye hit?
No? How about this Stones cover from 1964? By now you must have guessed if you've heard it. It seems even one of my favourite bands are not above stealing other people's tunes.

Less of a songkiller than a blatant act of remixing going unnoticed.
+ some more funk = + some celebrity cameos and random mention of celebrities =
