JJ isn't really dumb, he's just kinda' laid back when it comes to intelligence... or somethin'. I thought the same but the IQ test doesn't test emotional intelligence or emotional awareness. I think John James has bad emotional awareness. I think he is fairly emotionally intelligent too. His descriptions of some peoples personalities have been spot on before.
