But realistically does it even matter? He is as good a friend to a gay person as he would be if he was not Christian and gay people cannot marry anyway.

TBH my original point was really about whether people actually care because it seems to me people are just getting angry for the sake of getting angry.

Dave has never openly stood up and said I'm against this because he's clearly not. People dig and dig away at him about it but you can see he's not as bothered as most people seem to be.
