He didn't even say JJ1 was. The scheming gets are paraphrasing him. Josie asked him who would stay if JJ1 and Steve were up and Sam chose JJ1 out of those two. They then incorrectly deduced that JJ1 is the favourite by arrogantly excluding the fact that there are other HMs in with a chance winning.

I thought Sam went on to say that the hard vote to predict was if both John James and Josie were up together.

Yeah I think you are right (I missed that bit myself - talky people in the room) but even still that doesn't imply that JJ1 is the favourite does it.

Absolutely not!

This is what I've been saying, you can interpret Sam may believe this (that doesn't mean he's correct) or that Sam was playing the devil and winding them up for a big fall.
