Hatton's spokesman Max Clifford confirmed that the former world boxing champion had entered a facility and has been suffering from severe depression for "several weeks", according to PA.

Clifford said: "[Hatton] met with the specialist today for four, five, six hours and he was told that his depression is severe depression and that he has a drink problem. The drugs are quite recent and not actually the problem when we're talking about degrees.

"The problem is depression and the drink has been a problem for some time. From everything they've said, the drugs are a far more recent thing and very much superficial alongside the drink and depression."

Although he did not confirm how long Hatton would spend in treatment, Clifford said: "They are very confident if he does what they tell him with the treatment, therapy and advice, he can sort himself out. And he will do what they tell him."

He added: "They've said, 'This is your problem, this is what's wrong, and we can sort it out. You should have come to us a long time ago'. It's been a shaft of sunshine coming through. He's faced up to it now even though he hasn't for some time and it's been there for some time."

Eh what the **** Cocaine and the amount he was doing being "superficial"?

Why has Max Clifford got his fingers in every effing pie?!?! Can't stand the guy!!

That said, I hope Ricky comes through this. If he is suffering depression it's a dreadful dreadful thing. I just hope it's not a cover story a la Max.

He's an absolute wanker (Max). He feeds on the vunerable. Letch. I agree it's a cover story (most likely) but he's getting the spondoolies from it. He makes me feel sick

That was over anyway. It would've been a few fights against some bums then a pop at a championship belt, which he would've lost.

He could have trained though. Thats what pisses me off more than anything cos he always promoted training in schools/after school clubs etc. Now he's just promoted being a smacked off his face tit

I blame these two

But on a serious note, it's sad to see. He is a role model in some respects and it shatters dreams for some. People need to remember he's only human, and guess stuff like that is readily available with the lifestyle he leads. Seems almost every sports star is being shamed one way or another these days.

Not that it's a problem, drugs are out there to be used.If you enjoy them, take them.If you don't,don't slag people off who like them.

Thats why he's in rehab then? Cos he wants that. Wasn't exactly slagging him off either. I said he's irresonsible and I feel pretty disappointed in him as someone I admired. That said I do know he's suffering and hope he's OK
