Alf had an affair with Penn's Mum, Tulip O' Hare (what a great name!), after his first wife Martha died. He didn't treat her very well & basically used her for booty calls... Eewww! She was quite a troubled woman & she ended up killing herself as Alf didn't care about her. Penn then had a sh*t life after his Mum died, ended up in the loony bin & he blames Alf for everything, so he came to Summer Bay after he was released from said loony bin to get revenge on Alf by hurting those close to him. He's a proper nutter! Oh & Alf didn't beat him up... It's thought as well that he is somehow related to Alf, though nothing has been revealed as yet at Oz pace, though Alf's daughter Roo is returning this month, very intruiging, he's probably Alf's son...
